Installation Instructions
for S3 Windows 95 Device Driver
NOTE: This document describes
drivers available in executable format from S3®Incorporated
for its integrated multimedia accelerators.
The instructions in the document are written with
the assumption that drive A: is the 3 1/2 inch diskette drive.
If your system is configured differently, substitute A: with your
drive letter.

- S3 Windows 95 Driver
The section provides instructions on how to use the
installation diskette to install the S3 Windows 95® driver.
The following installation procedure loads drivers and related
files onto your PC.
- Installation Instructions
The Windows setup program installs and modifies all
of the necessary files. Follow these steps to install the Windows
95 driver.
- Start Windows 95.
- From the Start button click on Start, Settings,
and Control Panel. This will open the Control Panel Folder
- Double-click on the Display icon in the Control
Panel folder. You can also click the right mouse button anywhere
on the desktop and select Properties from the pop-up menu. This
opens the Display Properties Dialog box.
- Choose the Settings tab at the top of the dialog
box.
- In the lower right part of the Settings Tab section
there is a button. This button will either be labeled Change
Display Type or Advanced Properties. What this button is called
is dependent on the release of Windows 95 that is being used.
Click on that button.
- If the window that appears on your screen has
the text Advanced Display Properties shown in the title or colorbar
at the top of the dialog box then skip to step 12. If the title
of the dialog box is Change Display Type go on to the next step..
- In the Change Display Type dialog box there is
a heading Adapter Type, to the right of that is a button labeled
Change; click on that button. This will bring up the Select Device
dialog box.
- Please put the S3 Windows 95 Display Device Driver
Diskette in the appropriate diskette drive and click on the Have
Disk button. The screen will now show the Install from Disk dialog
box.
- In this box you will see a Dropdown list. That
list will have an a:\ highlighted. Click OK. A second Select
Device dialog box will appear with your adapter type already highlighted..
Click OK again.
- The Windows 95 install procedure will then begin
to copy the appropriate files onto your system. If at anytime
during this procedure a message appears stating that one or more
of the driver files is older than the files on the system , respond
YES to overwrite the files message.
- After the driver files have been copied onto
your system click the Close button on the Change Display Type
dialog box. Go to step 18.
- Continued from step 6. Note: if the window that
appears on your screen has the text Change Display Type shown
in the title or colorbar at the top of the dialog box then go
back to step 7. If the title of the dialog box is Advanced Display
Properties go on to the next step.
- The Advanced Display Properties dialog box has
three tabs at the top. The first tab is Adapter. To the right
of the picture of the display adapter is a button labeled Change.
Click on that. This will bring up the Select Device dialog box

Diskette in the appropriate diskette drive and click on the Have
Disk button. The screen will now show the Install from Disk dialog
box.In this box you will see a Dropdown list. That list will
have an a:\ highlighted. Click OK. A second Select Device dialog
box will appear with your adapter type already highlighted.. Click
OK again.
- The Windows 95 install procedure will then begin
to copy the appropriate files onto your system. If at anytime
during this procedure a message appears stating that one or more
of the driver files is older than the files on the system , respond
YES to overwrite the files message.
- After the driver files have been copied to your
system click the Close button on the Advanced Display Properties
dialog box. The Advanced Display Properties dialog box will now
close.
- Now click either Close or Apply on the Display
Properties dialog box.
- A Change System Settings box now appear on the
screen. Click on the Yes button to restart the system.
- The Windows 95 Driver installation is now complete.
