Support for the IP Switch FAS1200

Digital Equipment Corporation provides support for the Ipsilon IP Switch FAS1200 in GIGAswitch/IP System software Version 1.3-D. The Ipsilon IP Switch FAS1200 is a new component of the Ipsilon IP Switch that supports Flow Modules for connecting networks to the IP Switch. Currently, the FAS1200 connects Fast Ethernet ports to the IP Switch creating a backbone internetworking device. Up to 12 Fast Ethernet Flow Modules (FEFMs) can be installed in the FAS1200 providing a maximum of 24 Fast Ethernet ports.

FAS1200 Features

The FAS1200 includes support for the following features:

• Up to 12 Fast Ethernet Flow Modules
• Up to 24 10/100 Mbps Ethernet connections
• Up to 12 155 Mbps ATM connections
• Redundant power supplies
• Front-access, hot-swappable cards

Cisco IGRP Routing

With this feature, you can connect the DIGITAL GIGAswitch/IP System to Cisco routers, and exchange routing information with the Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (IGRP), an alternative to RIP or OSPF first developed by Cisco. A public specification of IGRP is available from Rutgers University (ftp://athos.rutgers.edu/pub/igrp.doc). This feature has been tested extensively for interoperability with Cisco equipment. The GIGAswitch/IP System can redistribute routing information learned from IGRP into RIP or OSPF. Using OSPF within a GIGAswitch/IP System network is often desirable, because its support for variable-length subnet masks reduces the use of IP address space, compared to IGRP.

Improved clearVISN IP Switch Manager Interface

Now you can easily configure and monitor the DIGITAL GIGAswitch/IP System. Using a Web interface, the clearVISN IP Switch Manager allows complete configuration of all interfaces, routing protocols, and administrative options such as SNMP. The clearVISN IP Switch Manager interface also allows complete monitoring of interface status, routing information, various statistics, and diagnostics such as ping and traceroute. Along with Web documentation, Online Help has been added to clearVISN IP Switch Manager, providing immediately available advice for each configuration and monitoring option. Web links from the clearVISN IP Switch Manager to DIGITAL technical support mean that additional assistance is just a click away.
