DIGITAL Before You Install DEC SoftWindows for OpenVMS AXP AV-QBWFA-TE November 1994 DEC Softwindows, Version 1.0, is a new release of DEC SoftPC. This release, also known as DEC SoftPC V5.0, has the following features: o DOS Networking - Supports NetWare, LANmanager, VINES, LAN Workplace, TCP/IP, and Winsockets o Windows - Includes already installed Windows V3.1 and MS-DOS V6.21, optimized for DEC SoftWindows o Increased Performance - Provides up to 486 performance run- ning Windows applications o OLE and DDE - Fully supports Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) and Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) between Windows appli- cations o Cut and Paste - Supports cutting and pasting between MS- Windows and XWindows Before Installing To use DEC SoftWindows software, you need a DEC SoftWindows license for each concurrently active user. Please ensure that your software license is the appropriate one. Your Digital sales representative can supply licenses. You must install OpenVMS AXP V6.1 or higher before installing DEC SoftWindows V1.0. You should also do the following: o Ensure that the items listed on the Bill of Materials are in- cluded in the software distribution kit and are undamaged. If any items are missing or damaged, contact your Digital sales representative. The first line of the label on each media item lists the part number you need to order the replacement item. o Read the release notes included in this kit. o Carefully read the DEC SoftWindows Installation Guide for OpenVMS AXP If you have used DEC SoftPC or a field-test version of DEC Softwindows before, be aware that: o Your previous C container files are not valid for this ver- sion. A tightly coupled package of MS-Windows and MS-DOS is included in DEC SoftWindows. Random failures, slow perfor- mance, and other strange behavior will occur if data from preceding versions of DEC SoftPC or a field-test version of DEC SoftWindows is used. o You must completely remove old versions of DEC SoftPC and/or field-test versions of DEC SoftWindows. DEC SoftWindows comes with a warranty as described in the Soft- ware Product Description (SPD) addendum. If the DEC SoftWindows software fails to perform as described in the SPD, fill out a Software Performance Report (SPR) and mail it to the address on the back of the form.
