Compaq Read Before Installing or Using X.25 V1.2 for OpenVMS Alpha Systems This cover letter provides information on X.25 V1.2 for OpenVMS Alpha systems. You should read this letter, especially the section Installation Information, before attempting to install the product. Wide Area Network (WAN) Device Drivers This version of the X.25 for OpenVMS Alpha product extends WANDD functionality previously available only on OpenVMS VAX to OpenVMS Alpha. The WAN device drivers support synchronous communications and offer a supported user ($QIO) interface. This version also includes a pseudodriver (WANDRIVER) that provides a programming interface to the Data Link level for the LAPB, DEC-HDLC, and LLC2 protocols and an interface to the physical layer of the synchronous communication devices supported by this product. The WANDD programming information is contained in the DECnet/OSI for VMS VAX WANDD Programming manual. For your convenience, a PostScript copy of the manual is provided in the kit. Informa- tion on Alpha-specific differences for WANDD is included in the Release Notes. License Management Facility (LMF) Information A License Management Facility (LMF) Product Authorization Key (PAK) allows you to access a software product and its documenta- tion in Bookreader format. A PAK must be registered and loaded before you can install X.25 from the Digital CD-ROM Software Library for OpenVMS Alpha Layered Products. Refer to the CD Read First letter for information on LMF requirements needed to read the X.25 documentation using Bookreader. Accessing Bookreader Documentation To enable access to the X.25 Bookreader files, your system manager needs to define the DECW$BOOK environment variable as described in the OpenVMS Alpha Layered Products Compact Disc User's Guide in the CD distribution kit. To read the X.25 documents, run Bookreader on a graphics terminal: 1. Invoke Bookreader (refer to the OpenVMS Alpha Layered Prod- ucts Compact Disc User's Guide); the initial or navigation Bookreader window is displayed. 2. Select the appropriate X.25 document.
