HP Web-Based Enterprise Management Providers software, herein after referred to as WBEM Providers software, is a collection of tools used to monitor the health of HP Integrity servers and receive information about hardware such as memory, CPU, power supplies, and cooling devices. The WBEM Providers software operates in the WBEM environment. This document contains the following sections: o Section 1, WBEM Providers Available o Section 2, System Requirements o Section 3, Problems Corrected o Section 4, Known Problems and Limitations o Section 5, Product Documentation o Section 6, Software and Documentation Availability in Native Languages o Section 7, Documentation Notes o Section 8, Reporting Defects 1 WBEM Providers Available The WBEM Providers software is a tool that retrieves information related to various hardware devices and report to the Common Interface Model Object Manager (CIMOM). The following is the list of the WBEM Instance and Indication Providers available in the WBEM Providers software: WBEM Instance Providers o CPU Provider o Memory Provider o Environmental Provider o Computer System Chassis Provider o Firmware Revision Provider o Management Processor Provider o Enclosure/Blade OA Provider o Utilization Provider o LAN Provider 1 o VM Provider WBEM Indication Providers o EMS Wrapper Provider o LAN Indication Provider Supporting daemons in the WBEM Providers product are as follows: o OpenVMS Event Monitoring Service (OPENVMS_EMS) o WBEM Utilization Provider Daemon (OPENVMS_UTILD) o WBEM Set Host Parameters Daemon (WBEMPROV$HOST_P) For more information about these components, see the HP WBEM Providers for OpenVMS Installation and Administrator's Guide. ________________________ Note ________________________ The CPU Instance Provider, Memory Instance Provider, Environmental Instance Provider, Management Processor Provider and Enclosure/Blade OA instance Provider are not supported on HP VM OpenVMS Guest, since the guest runs in a virtual machine. For information about the hardware devices present on the underlying VM host, use WBEM Providers running on the VM host operating system. ______________________________________________________ 2 System Requirements The WBEM Providers software is supported on the following systems, running the OpenVMS Integrity server operating system: o HP Integrity server blades - BL860c i2, BL870c i2, BL890c i2, BL860c, and BL870c o Non-cell based systems - rx1620, rx2600, rx3600, rx4640, rx6600, and rx2800 i2 servers o Cell based systems - Superdomes, rx7620, rx8620, and rx8640 2 o HP Integrity Virtual Machine running OpenVMS Version 8.4 as a guest The following lists the software requirements for using the WBEM Providers software: o HP OpenVMS Version 8.4 for Integrity servers o HP WBEM Services on OpenVMS Version 2.9-9 o HP TCP/IP Stack o Latest SYS and UPDATE patches ________________________ Note ________________________ On the rx2800 i2 servers, you must have VMS84I_UPDATE-V0500 or later update kit installed and running before installing WBEM Providers. On the BL860c i2, BL870c i2, and BL890c i2 server blades, you must have the VMS84I_UPDATE-V0200 or later update kit installed and running before installing WBEM Providers. ______________________________________________________ ________________________ Note ________________________ The WBEM Providers kit is supported for installation only on the OpenVMS system disk. Installation of WBEM Providers kit on a non-system disk is not supported. ______________________________________________________ ________________________ Note ________________________ HP recommends that you install HP Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM) Version 6.2 to remotely administer indications and instances. ______________________________________________________ 3 Problems Corrected This section describes the problems corrected in this version of WBEM Providers software: o WBEM Services (CIMSERVER) process crashes during startup when running on a HP Integrity BL860c blade server containing a mezzanine LAN card. o When the Utilization Provider process, OPENVMS_UTILD, runs on systems running the InfoServer client, it results in the unintended creation of many InfoServer disk (DAD) devices on the system. 4 Known Problems and Limitations The following section describes the known problems for the WBEM Providers software: o In HP SIM, under the Power properties in the Configuration tab, the "Manufacturer" and "Serial Number" of Power supplies for rx2800 i2 server is displayed incorrectly. o In HP SIM, the Cooling information is not shown in the Status and Configuration tabs for the rx2800 i2 server. 3 o Utilization Provider provides only whole-OS workload utilization data. It does not provide utilization data for resource partition workloads and sub-OS workloads. o In the Blade, rx2600, and rx2800 i2 systems, the data retrieved from the CPU Provider regarding the CPU serial number is incorrect. o In HP SIM, while viewing the instance properties, the "Current Time Zone" is displayed incorrectly in the Identity section. The correct time zone information is shown as part of the "Last Boot Up Time" property in the same section. o In HP SIM, under the Instance properties in the Status tab, the "Create Date" for OpenVMS Process Information is displayed in the following format: yyyymmddhhmmss o In HP SIM, while viewing the Physical Memory instance properties for a BL8x0 i2 server blade, the "Module Type" for the memory modules is displayed as "Unknown". o In HP SIM, while viewing the Enclosure instance properties for a BL8x0 i2 server blade running firmware version 15.05, the Enclosure Model field does not display the model information correctly. o In HP SIM, the collection and display of CPU and Physical Memory instance properties for BL870c i2 and BL890c i2 server blades may take longer (in the order of a few minutes). 4 5 Product Documentation The WBEM Providers product documentation is available at the following website: http://h71000.www7.hp.com/doc/wbem.html The following documents support this version of the WBEM Providers for OpenVMS software: o HP WBEM Providers for OpenVMS Integrity servers Release Notes Version 2.2-3 o HP WBEM Providers Installation and Administrator's Guide o HP WBEM Providers Data Sheets o HP WBEM Providers Events List 6 Software and Documentation Availability in Native Languages The WBEM Providers software and documents are available only in the English language. 7 Documentation Notes The following section contains additional instructions about the use of the WBEM Providers software. Changing the refresh interval of Environmental Provider 5 The interval at which the Environmental Provider would refresh its cache can be set by defining the WBEMPROVIDER_ CHASSIS_REFRESHINTERVAL logical. By default the refresh interval is set to 3600 seconds (1 hour), if the logical is not defined. The refresh interval can be set in the range of 300 to 36000 seconds (5 minutes to 10 hours) and should defined in terms of seconds. For example, $ DEFINE/SYSTEM WBEMPROVIDER_CHASSIS_ REFRESHINTERVAL 3700 Allowing multiple instances of the same event from OpenVMS EMS within a 24-hour period When multiple instances of a given hardware or platform event occurs, by default, the OpenVMS EMS component allows only one instance of the event to be sent to a WBEM Indication Subscriber within a 24-hour period. This filtering is done to avoid flooding the Indication Subscriber with multiple instances of the same event. To allow all event instances to reach the Indication Subscriber without filtering, define the logical WBEMPROVIDERS$EVENTS as follows: $ DEFINE /SYSTEM/EXEC WBEMPROVIDERS$EVENTS WBEMPROVIDERS_LOGALL To restore the default filtering behaviour of OpenVMS EMS component, deassign the WBEMPROVIDERS$EVENTS logical as shown: $ DEASSIGN /SYSTEM/EXEC WBEMPROVIDERS$EVENTS 8 Reporting Defects Contact your local HP Representative to file a defect on your behalf. 6
