HP Web-Based Enterprise Management Providers software, herein after referred to as WBEM Providers software, is a collection of tools used to monitor the health of HP servers and receive information about hardware such as memory, CPU, power supplies, and cooling devices. The WBEM Providers software operates in the WBEM environment. This document contains the following sections: o Section 1, WBEM Providers Available o Section 2, System Requirements o Section 3, Known Problems/Limitations o Section 4, Product Documentation o Section 5, Software and Documentation Availability in Native Languages o Section 6, Documentation Notes o Section 7, Reporting Defects 1 WBEM Providers Available The WBEM Providers software is a tool that retrieves information related to various hardware devices and report to the Common Interface Model Object Manager (CIMOM). The following table lists the Providers, and their respective functions: CPU Instance Retrieves information about processor Provider inventory and consolidated health of the processor subsystem. Memory Instance Retrieves information about memory Provider inventory and consolidated health of the memory subsystem. 1 Environmental Retrieves information about cooling Provider devices (fans) and power supply (bulk power supply and AC input lines) on HP servers. They also retrieve consolidated health of cooling, and power subsystems on HP servers. On the Blade systems, the cooling and power information is not displayed, as the cooling and power devices are connected to enclosure and not to individual blades. Computer System Retrieves the HP base server physical Chassis Instance asset information of the system from Provider HP Integrity servers. The provider retrieves properties such as the serial number, product ID, and Logical Universally Unique ID (UUID). Firmware Revision Retrieves the firmware revision Provider information for firmwares present on the system EMS Wrapper Translates events generated by the Provider OpenVMS Event Monitoring Service, herein after referred to as OpenVMS EMS*, into indications and reports those indications to CIMOM. * Refer to Section 1.1 for more information about OpenVMS EMS. Management Process Retrieves information about Management Provider Processor of the system. Enclosure/Blade OA Retrieves information about the Provider Rack/Enclosure and blade on an Integrity server blade system. Utilization Retrieves information about the CPU, Provider memory, disk and network utilization. OPENVMS_UTILD is a process that runs in the background, and it is required by the utilization provider. 2 LAN Provider Retrieves the consolidated status of the Ethernet interfaces. VM Provider Retrieves the information about the underlying Integrity VM Host within which the OpenVMS guest is hosted. ________________________ Note ________________________ CPU Instance providers, Memory Instance provider, Environmental Provider, Management Process Provider and Enclosure/Blade OA Provider are not supported on HP VM OpenVMS Guest. ______________________________________________________ Daemon The WBEMPROV$HOST_P parameter (OS version) runs in the background, and this parameter sets the host on the Integrated Lights-Out (iLO). 1.1 Supported EMS Monitors OpenVMS EMS is a component that is included in the WBEM Providers software. This component monitors and captures the hardware events and saves them in an OpenVMS index file. OPENVMS_EMS process gathers the events for the EMS Wrapper Provider. The EMS Wrapper Provider, queries the index file and wraps these hardware indications (events). OpenVMS EMS supports the following types of monitors: o IA64 Core Hardware Monitor (Events) o IPMI Forward Progress Log Monitor (FPL) (Events) For a list of events that can be generated on OpenVMS, see HP WBEM Providers Events List in SYS$COMMON:[WBEMPROVIDERS.DOCUMENTATION]. 3 2 System Requirements The WBEM Providers software is supported on the following systems, running the OpenVMS Integrity server operating system: o HP Integrity Blade servers - HP BL860c and HP BL870c o Non-cell based systems - rx1620, rx2600, rx3600, rx4640, and rx6600 o Cell based systems - Superdomes, rx7620, rx8620, and rx8640 The following lists the software requirements for using the WBEM Providers software: o HP OpenVMS Version 8.4 for Integrity servers o HP WBEM Services on OpenVMS V2.9 or later o HP TCP/IP Stack o Latest SYS and UPDATE patches ________________________ Note ________________________ HP recommends that you install HP Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM) Version 6.0 to remotely administer indications and instances. ______________________________________________________ 3 Known Problems and Limitations The following section describes the known problems for the WBEM Providers software: o Utilization Provider provides only whole-OS workload utilization data. It does not provide utilization data for resource partition workloads and sub-OS workloads. o In the Blade and rx2600 systems, the data retrieved from the CPU Provider regarding the CPU serial number is incorrect. o In HP SIM, while viewing the instance properties, the "Current Time Zone" is displayed incorrectly in the Identity section. The correct time zone information is shown as part of the "Last Boot Up Time" property in the same section. 4 o In HP SIM, under the Instance properties in the Status tab, the "Create Date" for OpenVMS Process Information is displayed in the following format: yyyymmddhhmmss 4 Product Documentation For more information on the WBEM Providers software, see the following documents in SYS$COMMON:[WBEMPROVIDERS.DOCUMENTS] after installing the kit: o HP WBEM Providers Installation and Administrator's Guide o HP WBEM Providers Data Sheets o HP WBEM Providers Events List 5 Software and Documentation Availability in Native Languages The WBEM Providers software and documents are available only in the English language. 6 Documentation Notes The following section contains additional instructions about the use of the WBEM Providers software. Changing the refresh interval of Environmental Provider The interval at which the Environmental Provider would refresh its cache can be set by defining the WBEMPROVIDER_ CHASSIS_REFRESHINTERVAL logical. By default the refresh interval is set to 3600 seconds (1 hour), if the logical is not defined. The refresh interval can be set in the range of 300 to 36000 seconds (5 minutes to 10 hours) and should defined in terms of seconds. For example, $ DEFINE/SYSTEM WBEMPROVIDER_CHASSIS_ REFRESHINTERVAL 3700 7 Reporting Defects Contact your local HP Representative to file a defect on your behalf. 5
