DIGITAL Software Product Description ___________________________________________________________________ PRODUCT NAME: POLYCENTER Framework Developer's Toolkit, Version 3.0 SPD 60.76.00 (Formerly DECmcc Developer's Toolkit) INTRODUCTION The POLYCENTER Framework Developer's Toolkit consists of software and documentation used by DIGITAL to develop POLYCENTER Network Manager 400 Access Modules (AMs) and Function Modules (FMs). Available in Open- VMS V7.1 for Alpha, the product is intended for experienced system soft- ware developers. The POLYCENTER Framework Developer's Toolkit is traditionally part of the DECmcc Product Family. For Alpha OpenVMS, all other components have been packaged into one product: The POLYCENTER Network Manager 400 V3.0. DECmcc is a network management software product family based on the DIGITAL Enterprise Management Architecture (EMA). For an overview of this product, refer to its Software Product Description (SPD 60.77.xx). DESCRIPTION The POLYCENTER Framework Developer's Toolkit enables users to design and develop their own Access or Function Modules for the POLYCENTER Network Manager 400 (formerly DECmcc Enterprise Management Station, (EMS)) product, (SPD 60.77.xx). Note: The POLYCENTER Network Manager 400 software is required for in- stalling, enrolling, testing, and operating management modules devel- oped using the Developer's Toolkit. The POLYCENTER Framework Devel- oper's Toolkit software simplifies the design and implementation of application-specific modules by offering a run-time kernel executive, various service programs, and source code for sample Access and Func- tion Modules. June 1997 AE-R60ZA-TE DOCUMENTATION The Developer's Toolkit documentation provides information to assist in the design and development of DECmcc. It includes the following doc- uments: o Enterprise Management Architecture (EMA) General Description o EMA Entity Model o The DECmcc System Reference Manual (SRM Volume 1 & 2) o POLYCENTER Management Module Programming o The POLYCENTER Framework Developer's Toolkit Reference The POLYCENTER Module Reference Manuals, available on-line only, pro- vide specifications of the services offered and required by each POLY- CENTER/DECmcc network management module. DEVELOPMENT UTILITIES Development utilities and tools that are part of the Toolkit include the Design Framework, a sample Access Module, and an example Function Module: o The Network Management Design Framework is a set of generic soft- ware components that enable users to construct a starter Manage- ment Module. Such a module can be used as a base for the develop- ment of application-specific Access or Function Modules. The De- sign Framework uses proven development techniques that minimize cod- ing errors, expedite development, and reduce coding ambiguities that can arise during module design. o The Sample Access Module is a basic example of an AM that can be run on a POLYCENTER Network Manager 400. It contains working ex- amples of many of the DECmcc interfaces, including the mcc_call in- terface and calls to many of the POLYCENTER Network Manager 400 rou- tines that enable Management Modules to reside on and interoper- ate within a DECmcc system. The Sample AM is implemented using the Design Framework. NOTE: The Sample AM explicitly uses DECnet Phase 2 IV. If DECnet is unavailable, the Sample AM may be run with the trans- port disabled for illustration purposes only. o The Example Function Module contains working examples of common rou- tines used by FMs to access DECmcc services provided by its Exec- utive and by other FMs and AMs. It is layered on top of the Sam- ple AM. o The following utilities are included in the POLYCENTER Network Man- ager 400 Software and are necessary for enrolling application-specific access modules and related files into the DECmcc system: - Management Specification Language (MSL) Translator Utility - Dictionary Administrator Program (DAP) Utility - Bed Driver (TBD) Utility - Help File Builder (HFB) Utility These utilities allow on-site enrollment of Access and Function Mod- ules. The POLYCENTER Framework Developer's Toolkit Reference (AA-PD5MD- TE) describes each utility in detail.
