COMPAQ Read Before Installing Compaq ACMS Version 4.4A for OpenVMS Alpha Systems Whether you are a new or existing Compaq ACMS for OpenVMS cus- tomer, please take time to read the following information about your product. Security Advisory Compaq has determined that OpenVMS Alpha systems running ACMS Version 4.4 have a serious security flaw involving elevated privileges that could be exploited. This potential security vulnerability involves ACMS processes having more privileges enabled than the privileges specified in the authorization file. To protect against this potential security risk, Compaq is dis- tributing Version 4.4A on the OpenVMS Alpha Product Library beginning in Q1 of 2002. Customers using ACMS Version 4.4 should upgrade to Version 4.4A immediately. ACMS Version 4.4A is sup- ported on OpenVMS Alpha Versions 7.2-2 and 7.3. IMPORTANT This problem does not compromise the security of the Open- VMS operating system. If ACMS is not installed on your system, you do NOT need to install this mandatory update. You can verify whether or not ACMS has been installed on your system using the following command: $ ACMS/SHOW SYSTEM If ACMS is not installed you will get a "%DCL-W-IVVERB, unrec- ognized command verb" error message. If ACMS is installed, you will get a ACMS status message that tells you the version of ACMS running on your machine. NOTE Compaq recommends that you apply this update to your ACMS systems immediately. Your OpenVMS system does not need to be rebooted. ACMS will restart automatically as part of the upgrade to ACMS Version 4.4A. ACMS Version 4.4A also contains bug fixes. See the Release Notes for complete details. DECdtm Usage If ACMS is used in a mixed-network environment, Compaq DECnet for OpenVMS (Phase IV) and Compaq DECnet-Plus for OpenVMS, and a DECdtm transaction is started within ACMS on a Phase IV system, it will fail with the following condition when it attempts to add the transaction from the DECnet-Plus system. '%SYSTEM-F-NOSUCHNODE, remote node is unknown' The workaround for this problem is to redefine the SYS$DECDTM_ NODE_NAME logical name on the DECnet-Plus system to match its Phase IV equivalent.
