DIGITAL Before You Install DEC SoftWindows for Digital UNIX October 1995 Version 2.0 of DEC Softwindows for Digital UNIX has the follow- ing features: o Intel 80486 Processor Emulation - Full support for the i486 processor that provides: - The ability to run Windows in enhanced mode - Continued support for OLE 2.0 - Multiple MS-DOS sessions - 32-bit memory addressing - Support for virtual device drivers o Expanded Networking Support - Includes Novelle NetWare 4.x, PATHWORKS, and PC-NFS v5.x, along with continued support for NetWare 3.x, LANmanager, VINES, LAN Workplace, TCP/IP, and Winsockets. o Windows - Includes already installed Windows V3.11 and MS-DOS V6.22, optimized for DEC SoftWindows. o OLE and DDE - Fully supports Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) and Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) between Windows appli- cations. o Cut and Paste for Text and Graphics - Supports cutting and pasting between both text and graphics between Microsoft Windows and X Windows. Before Installing To use DEC SoftWindows software, you need a DEC SoftWindows license for each concurrently active user. Please ensure that your software license is the appropriate one. Your Digital sales representative can supply licenses. You must install Digital UNIX Version 3.2 or higher before installing DEC SoftWindows V2.0. You should also do the following: o Ensure that the items listed on the Bill of Materials are in- cluded in the software distribution kit and are undamaged. If any items are missing or damaged, contact your Digital sales representative. The first line of the label on each media item lists the part number you need to order the replacement item. o If you are upgrading to DEC SoftWindows Version 2, consult the DEC SoftWindows User and Administrator Guide for Digital UNIX, Chapter 1, Introduction, Upgrading from DEC SoftWindows Version 1. Please note that earlier (V1.x) DEC SoftWindows C container files are not valid for this version. o Read the release notes included in this kit. o Carefully read the DEC SoftWindows Installation Guide for Digital UNIX DEC SoftWindows comes with a warranty as described in the Soft- ware Product Description (SPD) addendum. If the DEC SoftWindows software fails to perform as described in the SPD, fill out a Software Performance Report (SPR) and mail it to the address on the back of the form.
