Read Before Installing or Using X.25 for OpenVMS Alpha Systems, Version 1.6, ECO3 Version 1.6, ECO3 contains bug fixes to previously reported problems. If you are running OpenVMS 7.3-2, note the following. When the NV device number exceeds 9999, loginout.exe will fail causing incoming interactive X.29 connections to apparently hang. The release notes include additional information on this issue as well as a workaround. The remainder of this cover letter provides information on HP X.25 for OpenVMS Alpha Systems V1.6 software. You should read this letter, especially the section Installation Information, before attempting to install the product. Digi International DataFire Sync 2000 Support HP X.25 for OpenVMS Alpha Systems Version 1.6 software supports the new PCI card (PBXDD-Ax) from Digi International. This PCI synchronous card can be plugged into any unoccupied PCI slot in the Alpha system. Any PBXDD cards will be automatically recognized when the X.25 software is configured. Tracepoints HP X.25 for OpenVMS Alpha Systems V1.6 software has been updated to match the functionality of PSI Trace for the OpenVMS VAX X.25 product. This involves the following capabilities: o Ability to trace a circuit given the NWA device name o Ability to trace an X.29 port o Ability to trace an individual X.25 L3 circuit OpenVMS Alpha Software Products Library HP X.25 OpenVMS Alpha Systems V1.6 software and documentation ship on the OpenVMS Alpha Layered Product CD-ROM distribution: o The OpenVMS Alpha Software Product Library CD-ROM contains the installable software kit, Release Notes, Software Product Description (SPD), and cover letter in ASCII (.TXT) and PostScript (.PS) formats. o The OpenVMS Alpha Online Documentation Library CD-ROM con- tains user documentation in Bookreader format. Installation Information Installing HP X.25 for OpenVMS Alpha Systems V1.6 requires one of the following: o OpenVMS Alpha Operating System Version 7.3-2 and DECnet-Plus Version 7.3-2 o OpenVMS Alpha Operating System Version 7.3-1 and DECnet-Plus Version 7.3-1 PRE-INSTALLATION WARNING ADVISORY If you currently have the X.25 V1.1B-ECO3 kit installed on your system, you MUST remove it prior to installing the V1.6 kit on your system. The X.25 Version 1.6 installation procedure does not correctly remove the V1.1B-ECO3 kit. If you attempt to install X.25 Version 1.6 and you have the X.25 V1.1B-ECO3 kit installed on your system, the Version 1.6 installation detects this and stops the installation procedure. 2 If you currently have Version 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, or 1.5A software installed, you do not need to remove any X.25 software before installing the Version 1.6 software. The Release Notes for X.25 contain installation instructions and a summary of technical changes, known problems, restrictions, and incompatibilities. HP recommends that you read the Release Notes before installing X.25. The release notes are located on the OpenVMS Alpha Software Product Library CD-ROM in PostScript (.PS) and ASCII (.TXT) form. License Management Facility (LMF) Information A License Management Facility (LMF) Product Authorization Key (PAK) allows you to access a software product and its documenta- tion in Bookreader format. A PAK must be registered and loaded before you can install X.25 from the HP CD-ROM Software Library for OpenVMS Alpha Layered Products. Refer to the CD Read First letter for information on LMF requirements needed to read the X.25 documentation using Bookreader. Accessing Bookreader Documentation To enable access to the X.25 Bookreader files, your system manager needs to define the DECW$BOOK environment variable as described in the OpenVMS Alpha Layered Products Compact Disc User's Guide in the CD distribution kit. To read the X.25 documents, run Bookreader on a graphics terminal: 1. Invoke Bookreader (refer to the OpenVMS Alpha Layered Prod- ucts Compact Disc User's Guide); the initial or navigation Bookreader window is displayed. 2. Select the appropriate X.25 document.
