 Dear Customer:

 To continue our tradition of providing enhanced Storage Management
 software capability to our customers, DIGITAL offers a maintenance
 release of the Storage Library System for OpenVMS[TM], Version
 2.9B software.

 Storage Library System (SLS) for OpenVMS, Version 2.9B soft-
 ware runs on OpenVMS, Versions 5.5-2 through 6.2, and 7.1 on the
 VAX[TM] system, and on OpenVMS, Version 6.1, 6.2, and 7.1 on the
 Alpha[TM] system. It is not supported on OpenVMS V7.0

 You can use SLS, Version 2.9B in a mixed-architecture OpenVMS VAX
 and Alpha environment.

 SLS allows for "rolling" upgrades. This means that you can install
 SLS on your server, and incrementally update your Remote Clients.
 Your SLS Remote Clients must be running SLS, Version 2.6 or above.

 The Archive Backup system for OpenVMS product (ABS) no longer
 ships with SLS. ABS continues to honor the SLS license to allow
 for an easy conversion. ABS Version 2.2 can be found as its own
 entry in the consolidated layered software CD. If you have "Update
 Document Services" you will automatically be sent the ABS Version
 2.2 kit for this release only. Future releases will require ABS
 Document Services.

       uration Guide

    o  Storage Library System, for OpenVMS Guide to Backup and
       Restore Operations

    o  Storage Library System, for OpenVMS Command Reference Guide

    o  Storage Library System, for OpenVMS Software Product De-
       scription (SPD) number 29.67

 

 Prerequisite Software

 The following software is required for Storage Library System for
 OpenVMS, Version 2.9B:

 o  OpenVMS VAX, Versions 5.5-2 through 6.2, and 7.1

 o  OpenVMS Alpha, Versions 6.1 through 6.2, and 7.1
                                                         AV-Q8MFM-TE

 o  DECnet-Plus or DECnet Phase IV - for communications between the
    OpenVMS server and SLS clients

 Installation Options

 For current users of SLS, Version 2.5B and above who want to up-
 grade to SLS, Version 2.9B only:

 o  Install SLS, Version 2.9B as a normal upgrade according to
    installation instructions

 For new users of SLS:

 o  Install SLS, Version 2.9B according to installation instruc-
    tions

 For customers who want to run SLS and ABS on the same system:

 o  Install SLS, Version 2.9B according to previous instructions
    (This automatically installs the Media Manager portion).

 o  Configure SLS and MDMS according to the instructions in SLS
    documentation

 o  Install ABS, Version 2.2 according to installation instruc-
    tions. Do not install MDMS (refer to the SLS Installation
    Guide).
