AV-R578B-TE Read This First PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX January 1998 Dear Customer: Thank you for your interest in the PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX product from Digital Equipment Corporation. PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX is a DIGITAL UNIX layered product that provides seamless interoperability between DIGITAL UNIX server systems, Microsoft Windows NT server systems, Microsoft clients, and Novell NetWare Version 3.x servers and clients. The PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX software enables a DIGITAL UNIX system to run the services that make it appear as a Microsoft Windows NT server and/or a Novell NetWare server. Through the PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX software, Microsoft and Novell NetWare users can use DIGITAL UNIX resources without modifying their software. Information About This Release This version of PATHWORKS Version 6.1B for DIGITAL UNIX (Advanced Server) and the PATHWORKS Version 5.0D for DIGITAL UNIX (NetWare) software include Year 2000 (Y2K) support, which enables the PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX server to use dates that extend to the year 2000, and beyond. Required Software The PATHWORKS Version 6.1B for DIGITAL UNIX (Advanced Server) and the PATHWORKS Version 5.0D for DIGITAL UNIX (NetWare) software requires the DIGITAL UNIX Version 4.0A through Version 4.0D operating system software. Note: By default the PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX (Advanced Sever) software creates a DIGITAL UNIX user account for a user if one does not exist when you create their domain user account. If the system on which PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX is installed has the OSF410DX-400005 patch ID, which is part of patch DUV40BAS00005- 19971009, installed, then the DIGITAL UNIX account is created without a password. Anyone can log in to the DIGITAL UNIX server using the account without being prompted for a password. To resolve this problem you must use the /usr/sbin/usermod utility to set the default value for the administrative_lock_applied parameter to 1. That is, enter the following at the DIGITAL UNIX prompt: # usermod -D -x administrative_lock_applied=1 See the usermod reference page for more information on the usermod utility. License Support The information in the PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX software kit is proprietary to DIGITAL and is offered in confidence, subject to the terms and conditions of your license agreement. This software is for your exclusive use only. DIGITAL has made it easy for you to upgrade your existing PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX environment by including the rights to use this version of the product with those PATHWORKS licenses that grant the rights to use Version 5 of the PATHWORKS for DIGITAL UNIX (LAN Manager) product.
