The TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS software product is the OpenVMS implementation of the industry-standard TCP/IP protocol suite and Internet services for OpenVMS Integrity servers and OpenVMS Alpha systems. For a complete description of this product, see the HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Version 5.7 Software Product Description (SPD 46.46.22). Features The TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS software is based on the Berke- ley Software Distribution (BSD) Versions 4.3 and 4.4, with enhancements from HP. This release of TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS features the follow- ing new features and enhancements: o Packet Processing Engine (PPE) - a CPU for processing TCP/IP that increases the performance efficiency. o FTP Anonymous Light - Used for restricting user access for a particular set of directories. o TCPIP$CONFIG - Interface Configuration Menu is enhanced. o NFS Client - TCP is enhanced as the default transport. o LPD Configurable Port - LPR/LPD port can be configured. o FTP over SSL - FTP software is enhanced to use the security features provided by SSL. o SMTP cluster ability - SMTP is made cluster aware. o SMTP ASCII file configuration - Supports the SMTP config- urable fields. o SMTP Persistent receiver - The SMTP receiver process is made persistent. o POP ASCII file configuration - Supports the POP configurable fields. o POP server support - Supports the POP server for external authentication. Release Notes The TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Release Notes describe the new features of the release in more detail, as well as the reported problems that have been fixed and the limitations of this re- lease. The release notes are located on the distribution media in the same directory as the software kits. For instructions about how to extract the release notes, refer to the TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Installation and Configuration manual. Licenses For Alpha systems, the following TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS licenses are available: o The server license provides complete product functionality. o The client license provides a subset of the server license product functionality. The client license does not include BIND, BOOTP, DHCP, failSAFE IP, TFTP, NFS server, PC-NFS, and the load broker. o The client upgrade license provides a subset of the server license for customers who previously purchased a client license and now require full functionality. For OpenVMS Integrity servers, the Base Operating Environment (BOE) includes the TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS product and a server license for it.
