DIGITAL MAILbus 400 Message Transfer Agent ___________________________________ Installing on a Digital UNIX System Revision/Update Information: Version 2.0 This card contains the information that you need to install the MAILbus 400 MTA on a Digital UNIX system. Use this card in conjunction with Part III of MAILbus 400 MTA Planning and Setup. Order Number: AV-Q2MUE-TE Installation Prerequisites Before you install the MAILbus 400[TM] MTA, do the following: o Make sure the following software is installed on your system. The question mark (?) in subset names is a wildcard character: - Digital[TM] UNIX[R] Version 3.2, or later, or Digital UNIX Version 4.0, or later. - DECnet[TM]/OSI[R] for Digital UNIX Version 3.2A, or later, or DECnet/OSI for Digital UNIX Version 4.0, or later, including the DNANETMAN subset. If you intend to use the DECnet/OSI Transport Service, you will also need the DNABASE and DNADLI subsets. If you intend to use the TCP/IP Transport Service, you will also need the DNARFC1006 subset. o Back up your system disk. o Register a valid MTA license, MAILBUS-400-MTA or MAILBUS-400-USER. Use the Digital UNIX License Management Facility (LMF) to do this; see the Digital UNIX Guide to Software Licensing. o Make sure the MAILbus 400 MTA and any applications that use the MAILbus 400 MTA are shut down before you deinstall and reinstall the new version of the MTA. o Deinstall any MAILbus 400 MTA subsets already installed on your system as follows: # setld -d MTAABASE14? MTAASRVR14? MTAANETMAN14? Information Required To install the MAILbus 400 MTA, you need the following information: o The device name for the drive where the CD-ROM will be mounted. o If you are installing the MAILbus 400 MTA from a RIS server area, the name of the RIS server area. 2 Time Required It takes approximately 5 minutes to install all MAILbus 400 MTA subsets. Disk Space Required The following table shows the approximate amount of disk space required (in Kilobytes) for each of the MAILbus 400 MTA subsets in /usr/opt and /var/opt, and the corresponding softlinks for the MAILbus 400 MTA files in /usr and /var. ________________________________________________________________ Space Required Subset Title Subset Name (in kB) /usr /var ________________________________________________________________ MAILbus 400 MTA Mgt (Digital MTAANETMAN200 3700 20 UNIX) MAILbus 400 MTA Server MTAASRVR200 15400 110 (Digital UNIX) MAILbus 400 MTA Base MTAABASE200 2500 minimal (Digital UNIX) ________________________________________________________________ Installing the MAILbus 400 MTA 1. Log in with superuser privileges and make sure you are in the root directory. For a RIS installation, continue at step 3. 2. Mount the disk using the device name as follows: mount -r -d /dev/device_name /mnt 3. Load the subsets as follows: for CD-ROM: # setld -l /mnt/MTAA200/kit for RIS, using the name of the RIS server area: # setld -l ris_area 3 The installation procedure starts and prompts you to specify the subsets that you want to install. To specify more than one of the options offered, enter the number associated with each option, with a space between each number. Installing Subsets for the MTA On every node where you want to run an MTA, select the options to install the following subsets: MAILbus 400 MTA Mgt, MAILbus 400 MTA Server, and MAILbus 400 MTA Base. Installing Subset for Remote Management Select the option to install the MAILbus 400 MTA Mgt subset on every node where you want to remotely manage MTAs and the MTAs' routing information in the directory. Installing Subset for Remote Access by XAPI Agents Where an XAPI Agent (that is, an Agent using the X.400 API) is to be installed on a system remote from the MTA, select the option to install the MAILbus 400 MTA Base component on the node where the Agent is to be installed. After the Installation The set-up tasks required after installation, and the MTA verification procedure are described in Part III of MAILbus 400 MTA Planning and Setup. Before you continue and set up each MAILbus 400 MTA, make sure that the Base subset of the Digital X.500 Directory Service is installed on each node where you have installed the MAILbus 400 MTA Mgt subset. Refer to the Digital X.500 Directory Service documentation for details of how to install the Base subset of the Digital X.500 Directory Service. Release Notes and Further Information After installation, the release notes are kept in /usr/doc/mailbus400_mta.release_notes. MAILbus 400 MTA Tuning and Problem Solving contains a list of the files that should be present on your system after installation, and information about how to contact Digital if the installation fails. 4 For further information about installing software on a Digital UNIX system, refer to the Digital UNIX Reference Pages for setld(8) and lmf(8), and for information on using RIS refer to the Guide to the Remote Installation Services.
