See the SCSI CAM Layered Components for Digital UNIX SPD (SPD 50.68.xx) for details. In network operation, appropriate TCP/IP networking software for client and server systems is required. Different vendors might have different packaging of networking software. Client Systems For each of the client software subkits contained in this product, the specified operating system versions listed below are required. o Digital UNIX Operating System V3.2C or higher See the ORDERING INFORMATION section for additional client support not included within this product. OPTIONAL SOFTWARE Data Module for Oracle[R] (DMO) -- Allows a client to backup Oracle databases using NetWorker in cooperation with Oracle Enterprise Backup Utility (OEBU, also known as OPBR). This license is tiered by system type. See SPD 46.64 for more information. 5 POLYCENTER NetWorker Save and SPD 50.98.09 Restore for Digital UNIX, Version 4.2A DOCUMENTATION The following hardcopy documents are available for NetWorker for Digital UNIX: o Installation Guide o Administrator's Guide UNIX Version o User's Guide UNIX Version o Addendum SOFTWARE LICENSING NetWorker is licensed in the following manner: Server Licenses SingleServer license -- This license allows a system to backup its local disks with limited tape functionality (no changer, jukebox or optical). This license is included with Digital UNIX and is described in the Digital UNIX SPD 41.61. Server license -- Allows a system to provide backup services to itself and licensed client systems. This license is tiered by system type (workgroup = tier 1, departmental = tier 2 and enterprise = tier 3) and is included in NAS 200/300 or ordered separately. This license is a prerequisite for server add-ons. Archive license -- This server add-on enables archive services. This license is tiered by system type. Save Set Consolidation (SSC) -- This server add-on enables save set consolidation operations. This license is not tiered. SSC is available for Digital UNIX only. Jukebox license -- This server add-on enables jukebox access. This license is tiered by jukebox slot capacity. For tapes, tier 1 = 1-16 slots, tier 2 = 1-64 slots, tier 3 = 64+ slots. Each jukebox requires a separate license of the appropriate tier. For systems with more than one jukebox, each physical jukebox requires a license. Jukebox licenses are not cumulative -- that is, one Tier 3 license will not support two jukeboxes with 10 slots each. If not units of the correct tier license are available for use, NetWorker will use the next higher tier license, if available. 6 POLYCENTER NetWorker Save and SPD 50.98.09 Restore for Digital UNIX, Version 4.2A Note: Sequential autochanger support was included in previous versions, but now requires a jukebox license for V4.2A and all future versions. Client Licenses UNIX and PC client -- Controls the number of clients that may execute NetWorker software and access the server to provide backup, archive, restore and browse services. There are two types of Client Licenses: 1) a PC client License for PC systems (DOS/Windows, Macintosh, NetWare, NT), and 2) a UNIX Client License for other supported systems (Digital UNIX, SunOS, Solaris, HP-UX, IBM AIX, SGI IRIX, etc.). Each Backup client connection and each Archive client connection requires a license. Cluster client -- Allows NetWorker to support the TruCluster and DECsafe Available Server Environment (ASE) Version 1.2 and higher products, and the storage associated with an ASE service. Each cluster host requires a cluster client license, which is available in three tiers: Tier 1 for a workgroup system, Tier 2 for a departmental system, and Tier 3 for an enterprise system. ASE services do not require a separate cluster client license if the cluster hosts are properly licensed. If no units of the correct tier license are available for use, NetWorker will use the next higher tier license, if available. A cluster client license also contains an archive license. Note: All client licenses are loaded on the server and enable that server to provide the licensed services to a client systems. Client licenses are statically assigned to a specific client system and cannot be dynamically shared among client systems. This software is furnished under the licensing provisions of Digital Equipment Corporation's Standard Terms and Conditions. License Management Facility Support NetWorker supports the Digital UNIX License Management Facility. License units for the NetWorker server are allocated on an Unlimited Use basis. For more information on the License Management Facility, refer to the Digital UNIX Operating System Software Product Description (SPD 41.61.xx) or to Software License Management in the Digital UNIX Operating System documentation set. For more information about Digital's licensing terms and policies, contact your local Digital office. 7 POLYCENTER NetWorker Save and SPD 50.98.09 Restore for Digital UNIX, Version 4.2A GROWTH CONSIDERATIONS Depending upon the network configuration and distributed backup requirements of the specific environment, NetWorker may require additional hardware components to reach desired levels of performance. Client configurations of more than 200 clients to a single NetWorker server should be discussed with your Digital sales representative or reseller to ensure proper configuration criteria. Server performance and client limits vary with the following environment variables: CPU power Memory Disk speed Number and speed of backup devices Network bandwidth Quantity and type of data to be backed up Frequency of backup Scheduling window Number of clients NetWorker server index size Media index catalog size Client index size For additional configuration information, contact your local Digital office. The NetWorker server software maintains online index files that can become very large, depending on the system and software configuration. The system that executes the NetWorker server software needs to be appropriately configured. The minimum hardware requirements for any future version of this product might be different than the hardware requirements for the current version.
