          Dear Customer:

          Thank you for purchasing Compaq TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS
          networking software. This product is the Compaq implementation
          of TCP/IP protocols and services for the OpenVMS operating
          system.

          The product package contains the Compaq TCP/IP Services for
          OpenVMS Version 5.1 software and user documentation. Please
          check the Bill of Materials (BOM) to make sure you received all
          the items listed. If any item is missing or damaged, contact
          your Compaq representative.

          For a complete product description, see the Compaq TCP/IP Ser-
          vices for OpenVMS Version 5.1 Software Product Description (SPD
          46.46.13).

          Features

          The Compaq TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS software product is the
          OpenVMS implementation of the industry-standard TCP/IP protocol
          suite and internet services for OpenVMS Alpha and OpenVMS VAX
          systems. The kernel software is ported from Compaq Tru64 UNIX
          Version 5.1 product, which is based on the Berkeley Software
          Distribution (BSD) Versions 4.3 and 4.4, with enhancements from
          Compaq Computer Corporation.

          Release Notes

          The Compaq TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Release Notes list the
          problems fixed in this release. The release notes are located
          on the distribution media in the same directory as the software
          kits. After installation, the text version of the release notes
          is located in SYS$HELP:TCPIP051.RELEASE_NOTES. A PostScript ver-
          sion is also available in SYS$HELP:TCPIP051_RELEASE_NOTES.PS.

          Before Configuring the Product

          The TCP/IP Services product gives you the option to convert
          TCP/IP configuration databases from the Version 4.x format
          to the Version 5.1 format. For this operation to succeed,
          the configuration files must exist in the default directory
          SYS$COMMON:[SYSEXE]. Before running TCPIP$CONFIG, verify that
          the following files appear in SYS$COMMON:[SYSEXE]:

          o  UCX$CONFIGURATION.DAT

          o  UCX$SERVICE.DAT

          o  UCX$HOST.DAT

          o  UCX$NETWORK.DAT

          o  UCX$PROXY.DAT

          o  UCX$ROUTE.DAT

          o  UCX$EXPORT.DAT

          Licenses

          The Compaq TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS product offers three
          licenses:

          o  Server license. Provides complete product functionality.

          o  Client license. Provides complete product functionality
             except for the following server components: NFS server,
             BIND server, PC-NFS server, remote BOOT server, and RMT/RCD
             server.

          o  Client upgrade license. Provides the server components for
             customers who purchased a client license and now require full
             server functionality.

          Media Changes (VAX Only)

          The TCP/IP Services software for OpenVMS VAX (QA-VHRAA-HZ)
          is available on CD-ROM (layered product and operating system)
          as well as on the standard TK50. Magnetic tapes are no longer
          available.

          The TCP/IP Services software will be available only on CD-ROM
          starting in June 2002. TK50 media will not be available from
          that date on. This strategy reflects the trend in the industry
          toward more efficient storage media.
