Additional information is included in this letter. <> o Other prerequisite software on the client system DEC SNA OSF APPC/LU6.2 Version 1.0 <> DEC SNA VMS APPC/LU6.2 Version 2.2 <> o Prerequisite software on the server system - One of the following operating systems: MVS/XA Version 2 Release 2 MVS/ESA Version 4 Release 3 or Release 4 - One of the following gateway servers: DEC RdbAccess Server for DB2 Version 2.0 DEC DB Integrator Gateway for DB2 Server Version 2.0 DEC DB Integrator Gateway for DB2 Server Version 3.1 - ACF/VTAM Version 3 Release 4 or Version 4 Release 1 - One of the following versions of CICS: CICS/MVS Version 2 Release 1 CICS/ESA Version 3 Release 2 or Release 3 - Assembler H Version 2 - SMP/E Version 1 Release 7 or Release 8 - One of the following versions of the IBM database soft- ware: DB2 Version 2 Release 3 DB2 Version 3 Release 1 with the CICS Attachment Facil- ity 3 Installing DEC C/C++ Before installing the Common Components, you might need to in- stall the DEC C/C++ Run-Time Components Version 6.0 for OpenVMS VAX kit if the target installation system is running OpenVMS VAX Version 5.5 or Version 6.0. The DEC C/C++ Run-Time Com- ponents kit must be installed prior to the Common Components installation. The saveset containing the DEC C/C++ Run-Time Components kit is in the file AACRT060.A, and is included with the Rdb Version 6.1 for OpenVMS VAX kits. This kit is installed using the VMSINSTAL utility. The Common Components installation fails if the DEC C/C++ Run-Time Components kit is not already installed. Installing the DEC C/C++ Run-Time Components kit might have some implications for customer sites that run OpenVMS Version 5.5, 5.5-1, or 5.5-2 and develop applications written in C or C++. The DEC C/C++ Run-Time Components kit contains shareable image run-time components. When the DEC C/C++ Run-Time Components kit is installed on OpenVMS VAX Version 5.5, 5.5-1, or 5.5-2 systems, some of the shareable image run-time components replace older versions of existing OpenVMS components. This makes the installation of the DEC C/C++ Run-Time Components kit similar to an OpenVMS upgrade for sites that develop or distribute software for OpenVMS VAX Version 5.5, 5.5-1, or 5.5-2 systems. Please read the release notes that are supplied with the DEC C/C++ Run-Time Components kit before installation so that you fully understand these implications before installing the Common Components. <> Desktop Connectivity and DEC DB Integrator Gateway for DB2 Client You can access DEC DB Integrator Gateway for DB2 Client databases from your desktop using popular ODBC-compliant tools and applications. The client/server connectivity software is available as part of the DEC DB Integrator Gateway for DB2 Client kit. The client/server or ODBC access to DEC DB Integrator Gateway for DB2 Client is enabled by the SQL/Services software that comes packaged with the DEC DB Integrator Gateway for DB2 Client software. SQL/Services software is a client/server component of the DB Integrator Product Family. SQL/Services lets you develop client application programs on a variety of desktop and mainframe systems so that you can access DBI and gateway databases. DEC ODBC Driver for the Microsoft Windows operating system and DEC ODBC Driver for the Windows NT PC operating system allow ODBC applications read and write access to DEC DB Integrator Gateway for DB2 Client databases using TCP/IP, DECnet, or IPX /SPX transport. Note that the DEC ODBC Driver for Windows NT 4 PC operating system does not support the IPX/SPX transport. The ODBC Driver then uses SQL/Services software to access the data. Where to Find SQL/Services Software: The SQL/Services subsets are part of the DEC DB Integrator Gateway for DB2 Client kit. To enable desktop connectivity from a PC to DEC DB Integra- tor Gateway for DB2 Client, you need to install the following subsets, which are listed as optional on the DBI installation menu: o DEC Database Desktop ODBC Files and Images This subset installs the images for the DEC ODBC Driver for Windows and for Windows NT on the Alpha and Intel platforms. These executables must then be moved to the client machines. o DEC Database Desktop Client Files and Images This subset provides the client software needed to allow communication between the client (in this case, a PC) and the server where DBI and/or gateways are installed. There are clients for MacIntosh, Windows, Windows NT (Alpha and Intel platforms), RISC ULTRIX, and Sun included in this subset. o DEC Database Desktop Server Files and Images This subset provides the software needed to create and manage SQL/Services executors on the server machine. Documentation for SQL/Services is also included in this subset. The other elements needed to enable desktop or PC access to DEC DB Integrator Gateway for DB2 Client on Digital UNIX systems are SQL and Rdb/Dispatch. These components are included in the DEC Common Database Components Files and Images subset, which is mandatory and automatically installed (if it is not already present on the system) when you install DBI or any of the gateways. <> SQL/Services is a separate installation on OpenVMS systems. The SQL/Services Installation and Configuration Guide is in- cluded in the SQL/Services saveset. The SQL/Services savesets are available as part of the Oracle Rdb (formerly DEC Rdb) kit, which is packaged with DEC DB Integrator Gateway for DB2 Client. The DEC ODBC Driver for Windows image (DECODBC.EXE) is included in the SQL/Services saveset. Instructions for copying this image to the PC are in the README.TXT file in the SQL/Services saveset. SQL/Services savesets are as follows: o SQLSRVnnn.A, where nnn is the version of SQL/Services, can be found in the [DECRDBnnn.KIT] directory on CD-ROM 5 o SQLSRVMnnn.A, where M identifies it as the Multiversion kit and nnn is the version of SQL/Services, can be found in the [DECRDBMVnnn.KIT] directory on CD-ROM. On tape media, the SQL/Services savesets can be found on a separate tape. If you are running multiple versions of Rdb, then install the SQL/Services Multiversion kit. <> 6 How to Set Up and Use SQL/Services and ODBC: Please refer to the SQL/Services Installation and Configura- tion Guide for information on the setup and configuration of SQL/Services.
