DIGITAL January 1996 Before You Install DEC DATATRIEVE Version 7.1 for OpenVMS VAX Systems Order Number: AV-L770U-TE This letter includes information on DEC[TM] DATATRIEVE [TM] Version 7.1 for OpenVMS[TM] VAX[TM] systems. Version 7.1 is a new version of an existing product; see the DEC DATATRIEVE Release Notes for a description of the new features and bug fixes provided in DEC DATATRIEVE Version 7.1. Contents of this Kit This package contains the DEC DATATRIEVE software and installa- tion instructions. The DEC DATATRIEVE software is also referred to as DATATRIEVE. The software and instructions consist of: o A 1600bpi mag tape or a TK50 containing the DEC DATATRIEVE software o A copy of the DEC DATATRIEVE Installation Guide Installation Follow these steps to install DEC DATATRIEVE on your system: 1. Read the Bill of Materials (BOM) enclosed in the transpar- ent plastic envelope. Check that all listed items are in your kit. If any items are missing, contact your Digital representative. 2. Make sure that the required Product Authorization Key (PAK) is registered and loaded. See the OpenVMS documentation for more information. 3. Make sure that the following required product is already installed: - OpenVMS VAX (Version 5.3 or higher). For Fullname support OpenVMS VAX Version 6.1 is required. 4. Install the following optional software products: - Oracle CDD/Repository[TM] (Version 5.0 or higher). - LSE for OpenVMS VAX. Version 1.3 or higher for character- cell terminals. Version 3.1 or higher for workstations running DECwindows[TM] Motif[R]. - Oracle Rdb[TM] (Version 4.0B or higher). [1] - VAX TDMS (Version 1.9 or higher). ___________________ [1] If you plan to use Oracle Rdb with DEC DATATRIEVE, fol- low the order-of-installation instructions provided with Oracle CDD/Repository. - VAX FMS[TM] (Version 2.3 or higher). - DECforms[TM] (Version 1.3 or higher) for OpenVMS VAX. - Oracle CODASYL DBMS[TM] (Version 4.2 or higher). - VAX Rdb/ELN[TM] (Version 2.1 or higher). - DEC DB Integrator Gateway for ORACLE[R] (Version 1.0 or higher). - DEC DB Integrator Gateway for DB2[TM] (Version 1.0 or higher). - DEC DB Integrator Gateway for SYBASE[R] (Version 1.0 or higher). - The CDA[TM] converter library (the version supported by DECwindows Motif Version 1.1 or higher). For OpenVMS VAX systems using terminals, CDA Runtime Services 1.0 can be installed. - DECwindows Motif (Version 1.1 or higher). - DECnet[TM]/OSI for OpenVMS VAX Version 5.7 or higher for Fullname support. - For using DEC DATATRIEVE Version 7.1 with DEC DATATRIEVE Client for Windows[TM], the following software is re- quired: * DECnet Extensions Version 5.4 for OpenVMS VAX or DECnet Version 6.0 or higher for OpenVMS VAX, or DEC TCP /IP Services for OpenVMS VAX, or TGV MultiNet[R] for OpenVMS. * Microsoft[R] Windows Version 3.1 or higher, or Mi- crosoft Windows 95[R] , or Microsoft Windows for WorkGroups Version 3.11, or Microsoft Windows NT[TM] Workstation Version 3.5. * PATHWORKS[TM] Version 5.0A, or Trumpet (if you use Microsoft Windows (Version 3.1)), or TCP/IP-32 for Win- dows for Workgroups 3.11 (if you use Microsoft Windows for WorkGroups Version 3.11). When using Microsoft Win- dows 95, or Microsoft Windows NT Workstation Version 3.5, the TCP/IP protocol is already provided. * A compiler or interpreter that can access DLL li- braries (only required for the DEC DATATRIEVE Call Interface). NOTE Note that certain versions of these products depend upon a specific version of the operating system. Please refer to the Software Product Description (SPD) of the product in question to determine which version is required. 5. Install DEC DATATRIEVE by following the instructions in the DEC DATATRIEVE Installation Guide. 2 6.
