              Dear DIGITAL PATHWORKS[TM] for OpenVMS[TM] Customer,

              The enclosed media contain:

              o  PATHWORKS V5.0F1 for OpenVMS (LAN Manager)

              o  PATHWORKS V1.0F1 for OpenVMS (NetWare)

              As with the previous release, DIGITAL has combined these
              two products in one distribution kit. Licenses are still
              purchased separately.

              Please refer to your existing Server Installation and
              Upgrade Guide for instructions on how to install the LAN
              Manager server, the NetWare server, or both. Also, please
              read the on-line release notes for other important notices
              regarding these releases.

                ___________________SPECIAL  NOTICE ___________________

                On July 1, 1998, PATHWORKS for OpenVMS (NetWare)
                will be retired.

                In particular, this means that this product will no
                longer be supported and that licenses to use this
                product will no longer be sold. The code for this
                product continues to be distributed in this package
                as a convenience for those who may have previously
                deployed it and who may wish to continue to use it
                without support from DIGITAL.

              Important information for users:

              o  V5.0F1 of PATHWORKS for OpenVMS (LAN Manager) is
                 functionally equivalent to PATHWORKS for OpenVMS (LAN
                 Manager) V5.0F-ECO1.

                 Customers who have V5.0F-ECO1 installed do not need
                 to install V5.0F1. Likewise, installation of V5.0F1
                 precludes the need to install V5.0F-ECO1.

              o  V1.0F1 of PATHWORKS for OpenVMS (NetWare) is func-
                 tionally equivalent to PATHWORKS for OpenVMS (NetWare)
                 V1.0F-ECO1.

                 Customers who have V1.0F-ECO1 installed do not need
                 to install V1.0F1. Likewise, installation of V1.0F1
                 precludes the need to install V1.0F-ECO1.

              o  PATHWORKS for OpenVMS (LAN Manager) V5.0F, as well as
                 all future versions, will support the new Client Access
                 licenses.

              o  Versions of PATHWORKS for OpenVMS (LAN Manager) prior
                 to V5.0F do not support or recognize Client Access
                 licenses.

                 Organizations are strongly encouraged to upgrade to
                 the latest maintenance release of PATHWORKS for OpenVMS
                 (LAN Manager), currently V5.0F1, if they plan to add
                 clients to their environments.

                The Client Access license can be used with either
                PATHWORKS V5.0F (or later) for OpenVMS (LAN Manager)
                or with the PATHWORKS for OpenVMS (Advanced Server)
                products.
