           Introduction

           Thank you for purchasing DEC/EDI Version 2.1D. This is a main-
           tenance update to DEC/EDI that replaces the previously available
           DEC/EDI V2.1C product.

           DEC/EDI for OpenVMS/VAX V2.1D supports installation over previ-
           ous OpenVMS/VAX versions of the product. Specifically, it may be
           installed over:

           o  DEC/EDI V2.1C

           o  DEC/EDI V2.1B

           o  DEC/EDI V2.1A

           o  DEC/EDI V2.1

           o  DEC/EDI V2.0

           o  DEC/EDI V1.3C

           o  DEC/EDI V1.3B

           o  DEC/EDI V1.3A

           o  DEC/EDI FileBridge V1.1

           The product may not be installed over any other previous versions.

           Installing DEC/EDI V2.1D over previous product versions is de-
           scribed in the DEC/EDI Installing book.

                                         WARNING

              If you are installing DEC/EDI Version 2.1D over a previous
              version of DEC/EDI, there are some important things you need
              to do before installation. These are described in the DEC/EDI
              Installing book. If you do not follow the recommended pro-
              cedure, you may lose data and configuration information from
              your system.

           If you are not already familiar with the key developments intro-
           duced in the DEC/EDI V2 architecture, you are strongly recommended
           to read the DEC/EDI Introduction book before proceding with the
           software installation.

           The software installation kit contains a Release Notes document
           which provides:

           o  A description of the main changes made in DEC/EDI Version 2.1D.

           o  A detailed description of the problems fixed and enhancements
              made in Version 2.1D.

           o  A description of the known remaining problems.

 






           Before installing this software kit you are recommended to read
           the Release Notes.


           Accessing the Online Release Notes

           To obtain a copy of the Release Notes:

           1. Specify OPTIONS N in the VMSINSTAL command:

                 $ @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL decedima021 device: OPTIONS N

              Where device is the name of the device on which the distribu-
              tion media is to be mounted.

           2. After you have mounted the distribution media, VMSINSTAL dis-
              plays the following prompt:

                 Additional Release Notes Options:

                 1. Display release notes
                 2. Print release notes
                 3. Both 1 and 2
                 4. None of the above

                 * Select option [2]:

              Enter the number of the option you require.

              You can choose to discontinue installation at this point.

           DECEDI021.RELEASE_NOTES is the name of the file which contains the
           Release Notes in text format. Following a successful installation,
           this file will be in the SYS$HELP directory.
