          Compaq X.500 Directory Service Version 4.0 for OpenVMS Alpha
          Systems

          Read Before Installing

          Compaq X.500 Directory Service Version 4.0 is an upgrade of the soft-
          ware previously available as Digital X.500 Directory Service Version
          3.1 (and earlier versions).

          Read the Release Notes before installing Compaq X.500 Directory Ser-
          vice Version 4.0.


          Prerequisite Software

          Before you install the Compaq[TM] X.500 Directory Service make sure
          you have the following installed and working on your system:

          o  OpenVMS[TM] for Alpha V7.1-2, or later.

          o  DECnet[TM]-Plus[R] V7.1 ECO6 or DECnet-Plus V7.2-1 ECO2 for Open-
             VMS Alpha or later, including the application option (OSAK).

          o  For LDAP or other protocols that use RFC1006 connections, Digital
             TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS V5.0A or later.

          Configuration Tutorials

          Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 of Digital X.500 Directory Service Management
          provide configuration tutorials. If you are installing Compaq Direc-
          tory Service products for the first time, you might find the tutori-
          als a useful introduction to managing the product.

          Order of Returns to Multiple "Any" Filters Not Respected

          In an LDAP SEARCH request that uses a substring filter, the order of
          "any" substrtings is not handled correctly. This only affects substring
          filters with more than one "any" substring.
