DIGITAL Read Before Installing or Using DEC X.25 Client for OpenVMS[R] Alpha[R] Systems AV-PVU3C-TE This cover letter provides information on the product DEC X.25 Client V1.2 for OpenVMS Alpha Systems. You should read this letter before attempting to install the product. Throughout the rest of this document, DEC X.25 Client V1.2 for OpenVMS Alpha Systems is referred to as X.25 Client. Layered Products Media The OpenVMS Alpha Layered Products media, which contain X.25 Client, comprise two types of Compact Disc: o OpenVMS Alpha Software Product Library CD-ROM, which contains the installable subsets, Installation Guide and Release Notes (in ASCII and PostScript[R] form) for each layered product. o OpenVMS Alpha Online Documentation Library CD-ROM, which con- tains user documentation in Bookreader[R] form for each layered product. Contents of the Media Kit o Bill of Materials (BOM) Please read the BOM enclosed in this kit and verify that all items listed are actually in your kit. If your kit is damaged or any items are missing, call your Digital representative. o Media On the Software Product Library CD-ROM, you will find the X.25 Client directory and installation save sets. For information about installing X.25 Client on your system, refer to the DEC X.25 Client for OpenVMS Alpha Systems-Installation Guide, which is provided as a file on the Software Product Library CD-ROM. The Online Documentation Library CD-ROM contains X.25 documents in Bookreader format in the [DECW$BOOK] directory. The CD-ROM booklet: - describes the directory names on the Software Product Li- brary CD-ROM where product subsets are located; - lists the documentation files on the Online Documentation Library CD-ROM provided for each product; and - contains information on using Bookreader to read the Bookreader-formatted files from the Documentation CD-ROM device ([DECW$BOOK] directory). o Hardcopy X.25 Documentation Depending on how you ordered the product, your installation kit may also include printed copies of the X.25 Client manuals. o Software Product Description (SPD) and System Support Addendum (SSA) The SPD provides an overview of the X.25 Client product and its features. The SSA describes the technical environment in which the product is supported. Both of these documents are provided online. Release Notes Information The Release Notes for X.25 Client contain installation-related instructions and a summary of technical changes, known problems, restrictions, and incompatibilities. Digital recommends that you read the Release Notes before installing X.25. The Release Notes are located on the OpenVMS Alpha Software Product Library CD-ROM in PostScript (.PS) and ASCII (.TXT) form in: [DECX25CLIENT012.POST_DOCS] [DECX25CLIENT012.LINE_DOCS] In addition, after installation, the Release Notes are located in: SYS$HELP:DECX25CLIENT_012.RELEASE_NOTES] 2 Installation Information Installing X.25 Client requires the OpenVMS Alpha Operating System Version 1.5 or higher. X.25 Client files are stored in the directory: [DECX25CLIENT012] on the Software Product Library CD. A PAK must be registered and loaded be- fore you can install X.25 Client from the Digital CD-ROM Software Library for OpenVMS Alpha Layered Products. Refer to the CD-ROM Read First letter for information on LMF requirements needed to read the X.25 Client documentation using Bookreader. Accessing Bookreader Documentation To enable access to the X.25 Client Bookreader files, your system manager needs to define the DECW$BOOK and DECW$BOOKSHELF logical names as described in the OpenVMS Alpha Layered Products Compact Disc User's Guide in the CD-ROM distribution kit. To read the X.25 Client documents, run Bookreader on a graphics terminal: a. Invoke Bookreader (refer to the OpenVMS Alpha Layered Prod- ucts Compact Disc User's Guide); the initial or navigation Bookreader window is displayed. b. Within the navigation window, select the topic "Telecommunica- tions and Networking". c. Select the topic "DEC X.25 Client for OpenVMS Alpha Systems". d. Select the appropriate X.25 Client document.
