The TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS software product is the OpenVMS implementation of the industry-standard TCP/IP protocol suite and Internet services for OpenVMS I64 and OpenVMS Alpha systems. For a complete description of this product, see the HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Version 5.6 Software Product Description (SPD 46.46.21). Features The TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS software is based on the Berkeley Software Distribution (BSD) Versions 4.3 and 4.4, with enhancements from HP. This release of TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS features the following enhancements: o A new version of the BIND resolver that brings several API updates and new features. o The BIND server has been updated to Version 9.3.1. o The Tru64 UNIX-based kernel and management utilities incorporate several improvements. o The NFS client now joins the server in offering the ability to run over TCP. o The NFS server is now operational and supported on the OpenVMS I64 platform. o The NFS server now recognizes symbolic links and can create them as necessary. o Several extended features have been made to SSH. o SSH2 has been upgraded to Version 3.2 and supports IPv6. o New NTP features offer cryptographic security. o SMTP now recognizes more than one domain name for direct local delivery. 1 o The TELNET server and client are now supported with the upgraded Kerberos version that ships with OpenVMS V8.3. o The TELNET server is no longer limited to 9999 sessions or TN devices. o Both LPD and TELNETSYM printing software now allow you to print via the IPv6 transport. o The FTP service has been streamlined. o The menu-driven process of defining local interfaces and IP addresses has been significantly reworked to provide better support for failSAFE IP. o This release has added TSIG-based authentication support to the Load Broker. Release Notes The TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Release Notes describe the new features of the release in more detail, as well as the reported problems that have been fixed and the limitations of this release. The release notes are located on the distribution media in the same directory as the software kits. For instructions about how to extract the release notes, refer to the TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Installation and Configuration manual. Licenses For Alpha systems, the following TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS licenses are available: o The server license provides complete product functionality. o The client license provides a subset of the server license product functionality. The client license does not include BIND, BOOTP, DHCP, failSAFE IP, TFTP, NFS server, PC-NFS, and the load broker. o The client upgrade license provides a subset of the server license for customers who previously purchased a client license and now require full functionality. Using this qualifier will allow easy removal of the kit from the system in the event of problems. The kit location may be a tape drive, CD, or a disk directory that contains the kit. The /SOURCE qualifier is not needed if the PRODUCT INSTALL command is executed from the same directory as the kit location.
