                 Read This Before Installing POLYCENTER
                Security Compliance Manager for OpenVMS


      Thank you for purchasing POLYCENTER[TM] Security Compliance Man-
      ager (CM) for OpenVMS[TM]. Please ensure that you have the ap-
      propriate license for the software. You can obtain licenses from
      your Digital[TM] sales representative. To use the POLYCENTER Se-
      curity CM software, you must have a POLYCENTER Security CM li-
      cense. Before installing POLYCENTER Security CM, carry out the
      following steps:

      1. Ensure you are running OpenVMS Version 6.1 or 6.2. If you run
         OpenVMS VAX Versions 5.0-6.0, or OpenVMS Alpha Version 1.5,
         you must use POLYCENTER Security CM Version 2.3.

      2. Verify that all items listed on the Software Bill of Mate-
         rials are included in the software distribution kit and are
         not damaged. If items are missing or damaged, or if you find
         defective media during the installation process, contact your
         Digital sales representative.

      3. Read the POLYCENTER Security Compliance Manager for OpenVMS
         Installation Guide.

      4. When you are installing the software on your system, regis-
         ter the License Product Authorization Key (License PAK).

                                  NOTE

        POLYCENTER Security CM includes a command line interface.
        However, Digital strongly recommends that you purchase POLY-
        CENTER Security Console for Microsoft[R] Windows[R]. This

        includes a graphical user interface to configure and run
        POLYCENTER Security CM on multiple nodes and clusters.

      After installing the software, read the POLYCENTER Security CM
      for OpenVMS Release Notes, contained in the file:

      SYS$HELP:INSPECT$030.RELEASE_NOTES

      POLYCENTER Security CM for OpenVMS includes support for the Li-
      cense Management Facility (LMF). You must register a License Prod-
      uct Authorization Key (License PAK) in the License Database (LDB)
      before you use POLYCENTER Security CM for OpenVMS on a newly li-
      censed node. Use the PAK as instructed in the Installation Guide.
      Keep the PAK in a safe place for use with later releases of the
      operating system.
