MAILbus ======= Directory Migration Toolkit =========================== Installing ========== V1.0 AV-QV9HA-TE This card contains the information that you need to install the MAILbus[TM]™ Directory Migration Toolkit on an OpenVMS[TM] VAX[TM] system. © Digital Equipment Corporation 1996. The following are trademarks of Digital Equipment Corporation: Digital, MAILbus, OpenVMS, VAX, VMScluster Prerequisite Software --------------------- • · OpenVMS for VAX V6.1 or later. • · VAX Message Router V3.3A or later. • · The Base component of the Digital[TM] X.500 Directory Service, V3.0 ECO 1. This is not required when installing only the enhanced MBMAN Utility. Information Required -------------------- Before installing, make sure you have: • · Backed up you system disk using the OpenVMS Backup Utility (see the OpenVMS system management documentation). • · Determined the name of the device where the installation media will be loaded. • · Decided whether you want to install the complete MAILbus Directory Migration Toolkit or just the enhanced MBMAN Utility. • · Determined the name of the device where the XDDS directory will be located, if you are installing the complete MAILbus Directory Migration Toolkit. Disk Space, Resource, and Time Required --------------------------------------- To install the complete MAILbus Directory Migration Toolkit you need 3200 free blocks on the system disk during installation, and 3000 blocks of disk space permanently on the system disk after installation. You also need 200 free blocks on the device where the XDDS directory will be located during installation. To install the enhanced MBMAN Utility you need 1200 free blocks on the system disk during installation, and 1000 blocks of disk space permanently on the system disk after installation. Installation of either kit takes approximately 1 minute. Product License --------------- Before installing the complete MAILbus Directory Migration Toolkit, register the MAILBUS-DIRECTORY-SYNCH license. Use the OpenVMS License Management Utility to do this (see the OpenVMS system management documentation). The enhanced MBMAN Utility does not require the registration of a product license. Release Notes ------------- Read the release notes before installing the software. Use VMSINSTAL OPTIONS N to print the release notes. Installing on Clusters ---------------------- If you are installing the complete MAILbus Directory Migration Toolkit on a VMScluster[TM], install it on the primary Message Router node. Installing the MAILbus Directory Migration Toolkit -------------------------------------------------- Install the complete MAILbus Directory Migration Toolkit installation on the system where you want to run the MAILbus Directory Synchroniser (XDDS); this must be a DDS world search node. Install the enhanced MBMAN Utility on systems where you want to use the new MBMAN commands. Use the MB$CONTROL STOP command to stop Message Router. Log in to the SYSTEM account and type: $ @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL XDDS010 device OPTIONS N Follow the instructions in the online installation procedure. Handling Errors --------------- If an error occurs during installation, check the prerequisites and refer to the OpenVMS system management documentation for details of recovery from errors during installation and verification. Verifying the Installation -------------------------- To verify the installation, run SYS$TEST:XDDS$IVP.COM. Tasks After Installation ------------------------ · Use the MB$CONTROL START command to restart Message Router. Do this on every node in a VMScluster. · After installing the complete MAILbus Directory Migration Toolkit, copy the XDDS$STARTUP.COM file from the [XDDS.TEMPLATES] directory to SYS$STARTUP. Edit XDDS$STARTUP with the values decided during planning. • · To ensure that the XDDS logicals are defined when the system reboots, edit SYS$STARTUP:SYSTARTUP_VMS.COM to include the following line: $ @SYS$STARTUP:XDDS$STARTUP.COM Include this line after the command to start Message Router. • · If the device where XDDS is installed has disk quotas enabled, set a disk quota for the XDDS$USER rights identifier.
