Tru64_UNIX_Enterprise_Directory_for_eBusiness_ Installing Tru64 UNIX Enterprise Directory for eBusiness Installing Revision/Update Information: Version 5.1 This kit also contains Compaq Administrator for Enterprise Directory (for Windows[TM]) V1.0. Checklist: 1. Read the Read Before Installing document. 2. If upgrading from a previous version, you must create a snapshot file of your current database, using these commands: ncl> disable dsa ncl> delete dsa to snapshot 3. Deinstall previous version of the Directory. 4. Check prerequisite software, diskspace, and licenses. 5. Install V5.1 of the Directory (release notes subset first). 6. Use setld -v to verify the installation. 7. Run the create_templates procedure. 8. If upgrading or reinstalling, recustomize any customized files, specifically: The schema files (recompile the schema if you customize it) start_dsa.ncl start_dsa_event_dispatching.ncl The deinstallation of the previous version saves files that might be customized. See Read Before Installing for more information. 9. Start the Directory Service. If upgrading from a previous version, create the DSA from the snapshot file: ncl> create dsa from snapshot ncl> enable dsa 1 Prerequisite Software o Tru64 UNIX[TM] V4.0F or G, or V5.0A or later. o DECnet[TM]-Plus V4.0C for Tru64 UNIX, or later Installation requires the DNANETMAN subset and one or both of the DNABASE or DNAKBIN subsets, depending on whether you want the Directory Service to use DECnet /OSI and/or TCP/IP transport services. 2 Information Required Before you install the Tru64 UNIX Enterprise Directory for eBusiness, make sure you know the location of the installation kit. This is either a device name or a mount point. 3 Disk Space and Time Required The installation subsets require the following free disk space on /usr: __________________________________________________________ Compaq Administrator for Admin Enterprise fa- Directory cil- (for Base_Serverity[1]API__LUC__RelnotMan__Windows[TM])Total___ 3000 4000 4300 7800 8300 300 300 - 28Mb [1]This_is_not_the_Compaq_Administrator_for_Enterprise____ Directory;_it_is_the_Admin_facility_subset._______________ The installation subsets require the following free disk space on /var: 2 __________________________________________________________ Compaq Administrator for Admin Enterprise fa- Directory cil- (for Base_Serverity[1]API__LUC__RelnotMan__Windows[TM])Total___ 500 50 600 - - - - 14000 15150 Kb [1]This_is_not_the_Compaq_Administrator_for_Enterprise____ Directory;_it_is_the_Admin_facility_subset._______________ You are recommended to back up your system disk before the installation. Installation of all components takes approximately 15 minutes. 4 Product Licenses Before you install the software, you must register one or more of the following licenses: X500-DIRECTORY-SERVER, X500-SERVER-USAGE, and X500-ADMIN-FACILITY. 5 Before Upgrading from a Previous Version of the Directory On Tru64 UNIX , Version 3.0 and later of the Directory, the DSA uses memory image files instead of snapshot files. Memory image files are specific to the version of the kit. This applies to all versions (SSB, ECO kits, and FT kits). Therefore, your current memory image files cannot be used by this kit. To use your existing database with this kit, create a snapshot file of your database before you upgrade. To create a snapshot file, disable and delete the DSA using the following NCL commands: ncl> disable dsa ncl> delete dsa to snapshot After installing this release, use the following NCL commands to recreate the DSA: ncl> create dsa from snapshot 3 ncl> enable dsa When the DSA has been recreated and enabled successfully, you can delete the snapshot file from the DSA system as follows: # rm /var/dxd/DSA-information-tree.snapshot* The DSA does not need this file any longer, so you can save disk space by deleting it. Do not delete any of the other database files. 6 Release Notes and Read Before Installing Document The release notes are provided in a Relnote subset. You are recommended to install the Relnote subset and read the release notes before installing any other subsets. The product documentation includes a Read Before Installing document, which you are recommended to read before installing any components. 7 Installing the Tru64 UNIX Enterprise Directory for eBusiness and Compaq Administrator for Enterprise Directory Log in with superuser privileges. Make sure you are in the root directory. Type: # setld -l source where source is either a mount point directory or a device-specific file name of the installation kit. The installation procedure displays a menu. Select the components that you want to install, and follow the instructions. The Base component is a prerequisite for all Enterprise Directory components, and is required on all systems from which you want to manage the Directory Server, and all systems on which you want to run directory applications. Compaq Administrator for Enterprise Directory is an optional subset. Installing on a Distributed Computing Environment System If you install the DCE software after the Directory, you will need to reinstall the Directory. Make sure that the DCE software is installed before the Directory. 4 Files Saved When Deinstalling The installation procedure saves some files if you use setld to deinstall a subset. The files that are saved are as follows: /var/dxd/scripts/create_inbound_clns_template.ncl /var/dxd/scripts/create_inbound_cons_template.ncl /var/dxd/scripts/create_outbound_clns_template.ncl /var/dxd/scripts/create_outbound_cons_template.ncl /var/dxd/scripts/start_dsa_event_dispatching.ncl /var/dxd/scripts/dxd_aci_template.dxim /var/dxd/scripts/start_dsa.ncl /var/dxd/scripts/stop_dsa.ncl 8 Compaq Administrator for Enterprise Directory If you want to use Compaq Administrator for Enterprise Directory for limited + management of your directory, you should do one of two things. o Install the Compaq Administrator for Enterprise Directory component, as explained elsewhere in this document. Transfer /var/dxd/admin_win32/directoryadministrator.exe to your PC, and explode the self-executing file. o Download the Compaq Administrator for Enterprise Directory directly onto a PC from http://www.openvms.compaq.com /commercial/edir/edir_mgt_gui_download.html, and explode the self-executing file. 9 Handling Errors If an error occurs during installation, make sure that you have the correct prerequisite software and sufficient disk space. Repeat the installation, keeping a log of the messages displayed. If the problem occurs at the same point, refer to Tru64 UNIX Enterprise Directory for eBusiness - Problem Solving. ___________________ + See the file ReadMe.txt in the Compaq Administrator for Enterprise Directory kit for details of these limitations. You need to install the kit on a PC before this file is visible. 5 10 Verifying the Installation To verify that all installed files are in the correct locations and have the correct protections, type: # setld -v subset where subset is one or more of DXDABASE510, DXDASRVR510, DXDADXIM510, DXDARELNOTE510, DXDAAPI510, DXDALUC510, DXDAMAN510, and DXDAADMWIN100. 11 Tasks After Installation After installation, you need to run a procedure that creates OSI transport templates required by the directory components, as follows: If you do not run this procedure after installation, you will be unable to use the directory components on this system until the next system reboot. You can now configure the Tru64 UNIX Enterprise Directory for eBusiness as described in Tru64 UNIX Enterprise Directory for eBusiness - Management. If you are upgrading from a previous version, then you may have saved copies of schema files. Modify the schema files provided by this installation to include any customizations you made to the previous version, and then recompile the schema. You can then start the DSA. Note that if DECnet or DCE software are installed after you install the Directory Service, you will need to reinstall the Directory Service. 12 Further Information Tru64 UNIX Enterprise Directory for eBusiness - Problem Solving contains a list of the files that should be present on your system after installation, their locations and approximate sizes. The guide also lists errors that you might see during installation and verification and explains what to do if they occur. 6 © Compaq Computer Corporation 2001.
