DIGITAL Commander ---------------------------------------------- Installing on a DIGITAL UNIX System Revision/Update Information: Version 3.2 This card contains the information that you need to install the DIGITAL Commander server on a DIGITAL UNIX system. Order Number: AV-R6BEB-TE Installation Prerequisites Before you install the DIGITAL[TM] Commander server, do the following: o Make sure the following software is installed on your system: - DIGITAL UNIX[TM] Version 4.0B, or later - ECO Number DUV40BAS00007-19980514 - If you intend to use DECnet[TM], formerly known as DECnet-Plus for DIGITAL UNIX Version 4.0, or later, you will need the DNANETMAN subset. If you intend to use the DECnet/OSI Transport Service, you will also need the DNABASE* and DNADLI* subsets (where * is 032 or 040). o Back up your system disk. o Deinstall any DIGITAL Commander subsets already installed on your system as follows: # setld -d NAMONSRVnnn Replace nnn with the number that applies to the saveset you want to deinstall; for example # setld -d NAMONSRV030 Information Required To install the DIGITAL Commander server, you need to know the following information: o The device name for the drive where the CD-ROM will be mounted. o If you are installing the DIGITAL Commander server from a RIS server area, the name of the RIS server area. Time Required The time it takes to install the DIGITAL Commander server depends on the resources available on your system, and the number of scanning modules you need. The installation takes approximately 5 minutes on a DECstation[TM] 2100, when installing all scanning modules. 2 Disk Space Required The following table shows the approximate amount of disk space required in /usr and /usr/opt for each of the DIGITAL Commander subsets and the corresponding softlinks for the DIGITAL Commander files: ---------------------------------------------------------- Subset Title Subset_Name Space ---------------------------------------------------------- DIGITAL Commander Server NAMONSRV032 1000 KB Each DIGITAL Commander NAMON entity- 500 KB Scanning Module name032 ---------------------------------------------------------- To determine the amount of free disk space required during installation, double the amount shown above. See Chapter 2 of the DIGITAL Commander Server Guide for the size of the log file and how to control it. Installing DIGITAL Commander 1. Log in with superuser privileges and make sure you are in the root directory. For a RIS installation, continue at step 3. 2. Mount the disk using the device name as follows: mount -r -d /dev/device_name /mnt 3. Load the subsets as follows: o for CD-ROM: # setld -l /mnt/unix/srv o for RIS, using the name of the RIS server area: # setld -l ris_area Follow the prompts to install the server, and then use this command to install the scanning modules: o for CD-ROM: # setld -l /mnt/unix/ssm o for RIS, using the name of the RIS server area: # setld -l ris_area 3 After the Installation The setup tasks required after installation are described in the DIGITAL Commander Server Guide, including: o Authorizing clients o Setting up peer servers Documentation and Further Information After installation, the file /usr/doc/namon032_srv.release_ notes contains the release notes.
