DIGITAL Commander ---------------------------------------------- Installing on a Windows NT, Windows 95, or Windows 98 System Revision/Update Information: Version 3.2 This card contains the information that you need to install the DIGITAL Commander client on a Windows NT, Windows 95, or Windows 98 system. Order Number: AV-RA2WB-TE Installation Prerequisites Before you install the DIGITAL[TM] Commander client, do the following: o Ensure the following software is installed on your system: - Windows NT[R] Version 4.0 or later, Windows[R] 95, or Windows 98 - Windows Sockets Version 1.1 o Back up your system disk. o If you are installing on a Windows NT system, ensure you have Administrator privileges. o Deinstall any copies of the DIGITAL Commander client already installed on your system, using uninstall from the Start menu. Information Required To install the DIGITAL Commander client, you need to know the device name for the drive where the CD-ROM will be mounted. Time Required The time it takes to install the DIGITAL Commander client depends on the type of installation you choose. You can choose from the following: o Typical o Compact o Custom The installation takes approximately 5 minutes for a Typical installation and approximately 1 minute for a Compact installation. 2 Disk Space Required The DIGITAL Commander kit ships with a large number of bitmaps representing the countries of the world. The Typical installation only installs those maps representing the countries of Europe and North America. Installing the DIGITAL Commander Client Insert the CD-ROM and run setup.exe. The installation wizard guides you through the installation process. It allows you to do the following: o Accept the software license. o Choose a directory location for the application. o Select the type of installation you want. The installation continues and performs the following: - Copies the application software to your hard disk. - Creates the DIGITAL Commander application icons. After the Installation After the installation and once you start up the DIGITAL Commander Windows client, the setup wizard guides you through the setup of a hierarchical messaging system. You can then monitor this messaging system. 3 Documentation and Further Information After installation, the release notes are kept in the folder you choose during installation, with the name clt_ release_notes.txt.
