This is a Release Note for Enterprise Capacity and Performance (ECP) Data Collector Version 5.3. It describes the new features and changes included with this release. Compaq Computer Corporation Houston, Texas Printed January 2001 © 2001 Compaq Computer Corporation Release Note ECP Version 5.3 Included With This Release Version 5.3 is comprised of the following components: • Enterprise Capacity and Performance (ECP) Version 5.3 software • Enterprise Capacity and Performance (ECP) Version 5.3 UNIX Installation Guide • Enterprise Capacity and Performance (ECP) Version 5.3 OpenVMS Installation Guide • Enterprise Capacity and Performance (ECP) Version 5.3 Reference Guide • Enterprise Capacity and Performance (ECP) Version 5.3 User Guide New With This Release New platforms are supported with the the ECP Version 5.3 Data Collector. This release note provides details regarding any modifications have been made to the ECP Data Collector, Planner, and Analyzer. Data Collector New Metrics and Platforms For all platforms, new metrics are captured for the file system disk space utilization. The following new platforms are supported with this release: • x86 Linux (RedHat V6.1 and V6.2, Turbo Linux, SuSE 6.4) • Compaq Tru64 UNIX, V5.0 and V5.1 • Sun Solaris 2.7 • Microsoft Windows 2000 Analyzer There are new Analyzer features with this release: • CPC files can now be processed from Sun Solaris, HP-UX and IBM-AIX systems • View file system disk space utilization metrics • View disk utilization (throughput) • View Paging per CPU ms • Choice of line or stacked area graphs, and light or dark backgrounds. Reducer and Planner • CPC files can now be processed from Sun Solaris, HP-UX and IBM-AIX systems • Configuration file can now be imported or exported Documentation The documentation has been modified to reflect current Version numbers and product names. Restrictions and Known Problems The following is a summary of currently known restrictions and potential problems. Restrictions, Know Problems and Cautions VAXC2DECC.EXE shareable library is required The Enterprise Capacity and Performance suite requires that the DEC C Libraries be installed. These libraries may not be present on some older VMS systems. If the following message is received during installation: ECP-E-NEEDS Sharable Library VAXC2DECC.EXE required Install the C/C++ Runtime Components kit. Link warnings All link warnings on OpenVMS should be ignored. Ignore ECP$DRIVER error messages The execution of ECP$STARTUP will result in the installation of the ECP Collecter driver for the pseudo device cpa0:. The IO CONNECT of the driver may result in an informational error message. This message is innocuous and may be ignored. PLAN COLLECT=/VERSION On OpenVMS Alpha, the PLAN COLLECT=POLL/VERSION and PLAN COLLECT=SAMPLE /VERSION options do not currently work. Caution when using /INTERVAL The /INTERVAL qualifier does not enforce a minimum value. The Minimum value should be 60. Values lower than this are not recommended. Computer Associates' TNG UNICENTER V2.1.5 Data not supported ECP Analyzer will not work with the PSPA$READ.EXE provided with CA TNG UNICENTER version 2.1.5. Older versions of PSPA$READ.EXE with older versions of data will work if the license is still valid. Workload Analysis/Process Classification All changes made to the process classifications and process transaction counts are immediately applied to the data structures and the Cancel pushbutton does not reverse changes. Exiting and re-entering this screen will cause edited transaction counts to be lost. Unknown Disk Types from ECP/Collect Disk types are not collected by ECP Collector for OpenVMS. They are picked up by .EVM. EVM will only collect disk types for disks which had I/O. RAID Disk Configurations Currently none of the data sources provide accurate information on RAID disk set membership. In the case of host-based RAID sets, all disks should appear in the reduced file. In the case of controller-based RAID sets, the entire diskset may be represented as one disk. In either case, the user must correct the configuration prior to model build. .EVM Required for OpenVMS models ECP Reducer requires the .EVM data be present for data reduction. This is produced with the PLAN COLLECT=EVENT option. CPC files from PLAN COLLECT=POLL or =SAMPLE are not sufficient to build a model, although they are adequate for ECP Analyzer. BOTH collections need to be run when building a OpemVMS model.
