Software Product Description ___________________________________________________________________ PRODUCT NAME: POLYCENTER Framework Notification Option, Version 1.4 SPD 39.75.03 (formerly DECmcc Notification Package) INTRODUCTION POLYCENTER Framework Notification Option is one of several separately available packages of POLYCENTER Network Management Modules. These products provide management functions and protocol support for different network and system management environments. POLYCENTER Network Management Module Options can be installed and used separately or in any combination with the POLYCENTER Framework. The management services provided by newly installed modules are automatically enrolled in the POLYCENTER Framework and are available to management services already installed. POLYCENTER Framework software is the minimum prerequisite software product for POLYCENTER Network Management Module Options such as the Notification Option. Please refer to the POLYCENTER Network Management Services Software Product Description (SPD 37.20.xx) for a list of the POLYCENTER Network Management products and module options, and for a description of their relationship to each other and to the Digital Enterprise Management Architecture (EMA). DESCRIPTION The POLYCENTER Framework Notification Option consists of Management Modules that provide alarm and notification functions. It enables users to define states or conditions that must be monitored for fault management. DIGITAL January 1995 AE-PUCCE-TE POLYCENTER Framework Notification Option, Version 1.4 SPD 39.75.03 (formerly DECmcc Notification Package) Users can write alarm rules for any managed object or, with wildcard- ing, multiple objects in the same class, for which there is a corre- sponding Access Module (AM). Alarm rules can be based on state changes, simple arithmetic expressions, or occurrences (unsolicited events). Users can request notifications of events such as alarm firing, DECnet events, SNMP traps, and data collector events. Users can direct notification to icons representing devices other than the device generating the event. There are a number of operator notification methods available, includ- ing: o An Event/Alarm Log and a Notification Window that allow users to define event or alarm conditions they want to view and save. With the Notification Window, users can set up event filters, store and display event or alarm messages, and obtain additional detail as needed. Users can search for and display messages by specifying severity level, date and time, managed object, and keywords. o Map notification within the Motif/Iconic Map PM. This function allows users to set up notifications within the iconic map that change the color of an icon or icons. Users can assign specific colors to severity levels and select defaults that display either the most recent or the most severe alarms. o Trigger ULTRIX shell scripts or OpenVMS DCL command procedures. With such procedures, users can set up notification methods including terminal broadcast messages or electronic mail. In addition, fault isolation, testing, recovery, and other common operator functions can be automated using command procedures triggered by alarm rules. 2 POLYCENTER Framework Notification Option, Version 1.4 SPD 39.75.03 (formerly DECmcc Notification Package) HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS Processors Supported OpenVMS-based Processors: VAX: VAXft Model 410, VAXft Model 610, VAXft Model 612 VAX 4000 Model 300, VAX 4000 Model 400, VAX 4000 Model 500, VAX 4000 Model 600 VAX 4000 Model 700 VAX 6000 Model 400 Series, VAX 6000 Model 500 Series, VAX 6000 Model 600 Series VAX 7000 Model 600 Series VAX 8200, VAX 8250, VAX 8600, VAX 8650, VAX 8700, VAX 8800, VAX 8810, VAX 8820, VAX 8830, VAX 8840 VAX 9000 Model 110, VAX 9000 Model 210, VAX 9000 Model 300 Series, VAX 9000 Model 400 Series MicroVAX: MicroVAX 3300, MicroVAX 3400, MicroVAX 3500, MicroVAX 3600, 3 POLYCENTER Framework Notification Option, Version 1.4 SPD 39.75.03 (formerly DECmcc Notification Package) MicroVAX 3800, MicroVAX 3900 VAXstation: VAXstation 3200, VAXstation 3500, VAXstation 3520, VAXstation 3540 VAXstation 4000 Model 60, VAXstation 4000 Model 90, VAXstation 4000 Model 90A VAXserver: VAXserver 3400, VAXserver 3500, VAXserver 3600, VAXserver 3602, VAXserver 3800, VAXserver 3900 VAXserver 4000 Model 300, VAXserver 4000 Model 500 VAXserver 4000 Model 600 VAXserver 4000 Model 700 VAXserver 6000 Model 410, VAXserver 6000 Model 420, VAXserver 6000 Model 510, VAXserver 6000 Model 520, VAXserver 6000 Model 610, VAXserver 6000 Model 620, VAXserver 6000 Model 630 ULTRIX-based Processors: RISC: DECstation: DECstation 5000 Model 120/125/133/150 CX, DECstation 5000 Model 120/125/133/150 HX, DECstation 5000 Model 120/125/133/150 MX, DECstation 5000 Model 120/125/133/150 PX, DECstation 5000 Model 120/125/133/150 TX, 4 POLYCENTER Framework Notification Option, Version 1.4 SPD 39.75.03 (formerly DECmcc Notification Package) DECstation 5000 Model 120/125/133/150 PXG, DECstation 5000 Model 120/125/133/150 PXG+, DECstation 5000 Model 120/125/133/150 PXG Turbo, DECstation 5000 Model 120/125/133/150 PXG Turbo+ DECstation 5000 Model 200 CX, DECstation 5000 Model 200 HX, DECstation 5000 Model 200 MX, DECstation 5000 Model 200 PX, DECstation 5000 Model 200 TX, DECstation 5000 Model 200 PXG, DECstation 5000 Model 200 PXG+, DECstation 5000 Model 200 PXG Turbo, DECstation 5000 Model 200 PXG Turbo+ DECstation 5000 Model 240/260 HX, DECstation 5000 Model 240/260 MX, DECstation 5000 Model 240/260 TX, DECstation 5000 Model 240/260 PXG+, DECstation 5000 Model 240/260 PXG Turbo+ DECsystem: DECsystem 5000 Model 200, DECsystem 5000 Model 240, DECsystem 5100, DECsystem 5400, DECsystem 5500, DECsystem 5810, DECsystem 5900 Processors Not Supported MicroVAX I, MicroVAX II, MicroVAX 2000 MicroVAX 3100 Model 10/10E, MicroVAX 3100 Model 20/20E MicroVAX 3100 Model 30 MicroVAX 3100 Model 40 MicroVAX 3100 Model 80 5 POLYCENTER Framework Notification Option, Version 1.4 SPD 39.75.03 (formerly DECmcc Notification Package) MicroVAX 3100 Model 90 VAXstation I, VAXstation II, VAXstation 2000 VAXstation 3100 Model 30, VAXstation 3100 Model 38, VAXstation 3100 Model 40, VAXstation 3100 Model 48, VAXstation 3100 Model 76 VAX-11/725, VAX-11/730, VAX-11/750, VAX-11/780, VAX-11/782, VAX-11/785 VAX 4000 Model 60, VAX 4000 Model 90, VAX 4000 Model 100, VAX 4000 Model 200, VAX 4000 VLC VAX 6000 Model 200 Series, VAX 6000 Model 300 Series VAX 8300, VAX 8350, VAX 8500, VAX 8530, VAX 8550, VAX 10000 Model 600 Series VAXstation 8000 VAXft Model 110, VAXft Model 310 VAXserver 6000 Model 210, VAXserver 6000 Model 220, VAXserver 6000 310, VAXserver 6000 Model 320 VAXserver 3100, VAXserver 3300, VAXserver 4000 Model 200 Personal DECstation 5000 Model 20/25 MX, Personal DECstation 5000 Model 20/25 HX, Personal DECstation 5000 Model 20/25 TX, Personal DECstation 5000 Model 20/25 PXG+, Personal DECstation 5000 Model 20/25 PXG Turbo +, 6 POLYCENTER Framework Notification Option, Version 1.4 SPD 39.75.03 (formerly DECmcc Notification Package) DECsystem 3100, DECsystem Model 25, DECsystem 2100, DECsystem 5820, DECsystem 5830, DECsystem 5840. IMPORTANT INTEROPERABILITY INFORMATION FOR OPENVMS USERS ONLY Interoperability problems may occur when more than one product con- taining DECthreads is installed on a system. This occurs because some products overwrite the system version of DECthreads. If a product with a different version of DECthreads is installed after POLYCENTER Frame- work, problems may occur. POLYCENTER Framework V1.4 is linked with DECthreads V1.0-422. Later versions of DECthreads have a backwards compatible API. Consequently, no problem should result from having a more recent version of DECthreads on the system. Only SSB versions of DECthreads are supported. 8 POLYCENTER Framework Notification Option, Version 1.4 SPD 39.75.03 (formerly DECmcc Notification Package) SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS FOR OPENVMS For Systems Using Terminals (no DECwindows Motif interface): o OpenVMS VAX Operating System V5.5-2 to V6.1 o POLYCENTER Framework V1.4 For Workstations Running DECwindows Motif: o OpenVMS VAX Operating System V5.5-2 to V6.1 o POLYCENTER Framework V1.4 o DECwindows Motif V1.1 for OpenVMS V5.5-2 DECwindows Motif V1.2 for OpenVMS V6.1 OpenVMS Tailoring For OpenVMS systems, the following OpenVMS classes are required for full functionality of this layered product: o OpenVMS Required Saveset o Network Support o Programming Support o Utilities For more information about OpenVMS classes and tailoring, refer to the OpenVMS Operating System Software Product Description (SPD 25.01.xx) SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS FOR RISC/ULTRIX For Systems Using Terminals (no Motif interface): o Ultrix Operating System V4.2, V4.3, V4.3A, V4.4 o POLYCENTER Framework V1.4 For Workstations (both with and without Motif): o ULTRIX Worksystem Software V4.2, V4.3, V4.3A, V4.4 9 POLYCENTER Framework Notification Option, Version 1.4 SPD 39.75.03 (formerly DECmcc Notification Package) o POLYCENTER Framework V1.4 o DECwindows Motif V1.1.3 (for Ultrix V4.2, V4.3, 4.3A) DECwindows Motif V1.2 (for Ultrix V4.4) RISC/ULTRIX Subsets The following Subsets are required for this layered product: o UDTBASE42x, UDTINTLRT42x, (ULTRIX 4.2) o UDTBASE43x, UDTINTLRT43x, (ULTRIX 4.3, 4.3A) o UDTBASE44x, UDTINTLRT44x, (ULTRIX 4.4) For more information about ULTRIX Subsets, refer to the ULTRIX Oper- ating System Software Product Description (SPD 26.40.xx).
