        DESCRIPTION

        Diskless Driver for Tru64 UNIX is an extension of Dataless Management
        Services (DMS). When used with DMS, Diskless Driver for Tru64 UNIX elim-
        inates the need for a local disk. A single-board computer (SBC) or work-
        station can run Tru64 UNIX without a disk by booting over the network
        and paging to a server system using the Network File System (NFS).

        A software license is required for each client user of Diskless Driver
        for Tru64 UNIX.

        HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS

        System Configuration

        DMS Server

        A properly configured Tru64 UNIX system running Dataless Management
        Services (DMS) is required.

        Diskless Client

        Diskless Driver for Tru64 UNIX is supported on properly configured Tru64
        UNIX systems and must meet the minimum system configuration as described
        in the HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS and SUPPORTED HARDWARE sections of the
        Tru64 UNIX Operating System Software Product Description (SPD 41.61.xx).
        However, the client does not require disk support. (Note that system
        dump support does require a local disk.)

        Memory Requirements

        Diskless Client

        Diskless Driver for Tru64 UNIX requires a minimum of 48 MB available
        memory. Compaq recommends 64 MB available memory as a minimum.

        Disk Space Requirements

        DMS Server

        The following list provides disk space requirements for loading Disk-
        less Driver for Tru64 UNIX software subsets. These requirements ap-
        ply to the DMS server disks where you load the Diskless Driver for Tru64
        UNIX subsets.

        o  Documentation: 545 KB

        o  Software: 110 KB

        The total disk space required per diskless client is 655 KB for load-
        ing Diskless Driver for Tru64 UNIX software subsets. In addition, each
        diskless client requires disk space for paging files on an NFS vol-
        ume.

        SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

        DMS Server

        o  Tru64 UNIX (formerly DIGITAL UNIX) Operating System. For operat-
           ing system prerequisites and Dataless Management Services (DMS) re-
           quirements, refer to the Tru64 UNIX Software Product Description
           (SPD 41.61.xx and SPD 44.35.xx).

        o  Dataless Management Services (DMS). Refer to the Tru64 UNIX Soft-
           ware Product Description (SPD 44.35.xx) for Tru64 UNIX Server Ex-
           tensions information.

        Tru64 UNIX Operating System Version 4.0 or higher. Refer to the Tru64
        UNIX Software Product Description (SPD 41.61.xx) for operating sys-

        GROWTH CONSIDERATIONS

        The minimum hardware and software requirements for future versions of
        Diskless Driver for Tru64 UNIX may change.
