 PRODUCT NAME:  POLYCENTER[TM] Common Agent Devloper's Toolkit   SPD
 43.41.00                for DEC OSF/1 AXP, Version 1.1

 INTRODUCTION

 The POLYCENTER Common Agent Developer's Toolkit for DEC OSF/1 AXP is
 a layered product which runs on the DEC OSF/1 AXP operating system and
 is used for the development of management code for system, network,
 and applications resources or components.

 The DEC OSF/1 development toolkit runs on any Digital Alpha AXP hard-
 ware platform. The POLYCENTER Common Agent Developer's Toolkit enhances
 the productivity and efficiency of network and system software appli-
 cation development for managed resource developers. The major compo-
 nent of the POLYCENTER Common Agent Developer's Toolkit is the Man-
 aged Object Module (MOM) Generator, which produces ANSI C code tem-
 plates which can be customized for application use. A MOM is the soft-
 ware responsible for performing management functions on one or more
 managed object classes.

 The POLYCENTER Common Agent Developer's Toolkit includes the follow-
 ing tool for developing Managed Object Modules (MOMs):

 o  Managed Objet Module Generator (MOMGEN):

    Reads the POLYCENTER Common Agent MIR which contains the manage-
    ment specifications for one or more managed object classes. MOM Gen-
    erator creates ANSI C code for setting and getting variables. By
    creating a code template and automating many of the programming tasks,
    the MOM Generator reduces the amount of manual programming required
    to make components manageable using MOMs.

 The POLYCENTER Common Agent Base Kit and POLYCENTER Common Agent De-
 veloper's Toolkit are also available on RISC/ULTRIX.

 The POLYCENTER Common Agent Base Kit for DEC OSF/1 AXP includes the
 base agent services for translating Simple Network Management Proto-
 col (SNMP) messages, enrolling and activating managed resources. (Re-
 fer to SPD 43.40.00 for more information about the POLYCENTER Common
 Agent Base Kit for DEC OSF/1 AXP.) These services must reside on the
 host of the resources to be managed.

 Development Aids

 The POLYCENTER Common Agent Developer's Toolkit also contains sample
 code for managed object modules (MOMs) and debug routines to assist
 developers.

 Documentation

 The POLYCENTER Common Agent Developer's Toolkit documentation pack-
 age provides information and examples to assist in the design and de-
 velopment of managed object modules and object instrumentation. The
