Software Product Description ___________________________________________________________________ PRODUCT NAME: Terminal Server Manager, V2.1 SPD 27.64.09 DESCRIPTION Terminal Server Manager (TSM) software allows suitably privileged users on an OpenVMS VAX or OpenVMS AXP host to examine and control the state of terminal servers on the extended local area network (LAN). TSM pro- vides centralization and increased flexibility in configuring, mon- itoring, and controlling Digital Equipment Corporation's family of ter- minal and access servers. Enhancements added to this version of TSM expand support of TSM to Open- VMS AXP environments and provide mangement support for Digital's lat- est versions of access server hardware and software. Hardware support now includes the DECserver 900TM. Software support includes DECserver Network Access software V1.3 available for DECserver 700, DECserver 90TL, DECserver 90M, and DECserver 900TM. Features Management Directory TSM provides a database that contains the name, Ethernet address, ter- minal server type, and other access and reference information for each server to be managed. Through the information in this database, the user needs to refer only to the name of the server to gain access. Server Selection TSM provides a USE command to allow selection of a server or servers to be managed. TSM allows the user to manage a group of servers with DIGITAL May 1994 AE-JE80L-TE a single command. TSM provides several methods of creating or address- ing groups of servers; by specifying terminal server type, a prede- fined partition name, or both, the user is able to conveniently man- age the appropriate group of terminal servers. Volatile Characteristics TSM manages the volatile characteristics for all terminal server types. 2 Permanent Characteristics TSM manages permanent NVRAM (Non-Volatile RAM) characteristics for the DECserver 100, DECserver 200, DECserver 250, DECserver 300, DECserver 90L, DECserver 90L+, DECserver 90M, DECserver 90TL, DECserver 700, DEC- server 900TM, MUXserver 100, MUXserver 300, MUXserver 320, and MUXserver 380 terminal servers. For the Ethernet Terminal Server and DECserver 500 terminal servers, TSM modifies the permanent attributes contained within the image files that are downline loaded to those servers. Terminal Server Trigger Capability via TSM that will cause the server to load with whatever server software is specified in NVRAM. DECnet Database Modification TSM automatically updates the DECnet database for servers to match the DECnet related information in the management directory. It is not nec- essary for users to employ a separate DSV$CONFIGURE, DSVCONFIG, or TSVNCP configuration program. 3270 Option Software TSM provides support for the 3270 Option Software for the CXM04 line card. This line card provides the capability to connect the 3270 class of terminals to systems on Ethernet. Keyboard Mapping This functionality enables the terminal server manager to customize 3270 keyboard tables supplied with the 3270 Option Software, by chang- ing the way individual 3270 keyboard keys are mapped to Digital's VT220 keys. User Interface TSM supports commands issued both from the DCL command line, as well as commands issued from the TSM prompt. 3 By default, TSM checks the syntax of all commands before they are trans- mitted to the terminal server. TSM also provides a way to disable this syntax checking. Even with the TSM syntax checking disabled, the ter- minal server will still do its own syntax checking. This feature is provided in anticipation that TSM could support future versions of ter- minal server software (and new commands) with the current version of TSM. Command Files Command files may be maintained outside TSM (e.g., by use of an ed- itor). This command file support allows values of characteristics to be stored on the host, effectively creating a copy of the permanent database that may be used to configure new servers. Server maintenance is also enhanced by allowing the terminal server to be easily box swapped and parameters reset. Up to eight parameters may be passed to TSM com- mand files. Additionally, command files may operate on a single server, on a logical group (a partition) of servers, or on all servers. 4 Fault Management Centralized troubleshooting within the terminal server network is en- hanced by TSM providing the ability to read counters and status in- formation from every terminal server. This information can be used to anticipate traffic load and failure conditions for the servers on the network. With the ``PASTHRU'' command, the user can also connect di- rectly to the server, using a different method of connecting to the server, allowing isolation of problems between TSM and the server. A simple connectivity test to a specific server or all servers listed in the directory is provided with an informational message displayed for each server not responding. TSM allows the user to check period- ically for non-functioning terminal servers. This function could be implemented in a batch job which would notify the appropriate person- nel when a server problem is detected. Via the TEST DELAY command, users can measure timing delays associ- ated with data transmission to and from servers. The TEST CONNECTION command tests the ability to submit a print job to a server port. Communications Servers Terminal Server Manager supports the following models of communica- tions servers: Ethernet Terminal Server DECserver 90L DECserver 90L+ DECserver 90M DECserver 90TL DECserver 100 DECserver 200 DECserver 250 DECserver 300 DECserver 500 DECserver 700 DECserver 900 5 MUXserver 100 Remote Terminal Server MUXserver 300 Remote Terminal Server MUXserver 320 Remote Terminal Server MUXserver 380 Remote Terminal Server Terminal Server Manager also supports the following models of commu- nications servers running DECserver Network Access Software: DECserver 700 DECserver 90TL DECserver 90M DECserver 900 HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS Alpha AXP Processors Supported Alpha AXP: DEC 3000 Model 400 AXP Workstation, DEC 3000 Model 400 AXP Server, DEC 3000 Model 500 AXP Workstation, DEC 3000 Model 500 AXP Server DEC 4000 Model 610 AXP System DEC 7000 Model 610 AXP System DEC 10000 Model 610 AXP System VAX Processors Supported VAX: VAX 4000 Model 100, VAX 4000 Model 200, VAX 4000 Model 300, VAX 4000 Model 400, VAX 4000 Model 500, VAX 4000 Model 600 VAX 6000 Model 200 Series, 6 VAX 6000 Model 300 Series, VAX 6000 Model 400 Series, VAX 6000 Model 500 Series, VAX 6000 Model 600 Series VAX 7000 Model 600 Series VAX 8200, VAX 8250, VAX 8300, VAX 8350, VAX 8500, VAX 8530, VAX 8550, VAX 8600, VAX 8650, VAX 8700, VAX 8800, VAX 8810, VAX 8820, VAX 8830, VAX 8840 VAX 9000 Model 110, VAX 9000 Model 210, VAX 9000 Model 300 Series, VAX 9000 Model 400 Series VAX 10000 Model 600 Series VAXft Model 110, VAXft Model 310, VAXft Model 410, VAXft Model 610, VAXft Model 612 VAX-11/730, VAX-11/750, VAX-11/780, VAX-11/785 MicroVAX: MicroVAX II, MicroVAX 2000, MicroVAX 3100 Model 10/10E, MicroVAX 3100 Model 20/20E, MicroVAX 3100 Model 30, MicroVAX 3100 Model 40, MicroVAX 3100 Model 80, MicroVAX 3100 Model 90, 7 MicroVAX 3300, MicroVAX 3400, MicroVAX 3500, MicroVAX 3600, MicroVAX 3800, MicroVAX 3900 VAXstation:VAXstation II, VAXstation 2000, VAXstation 3100 Model 30, VAXstation 3100 Model 38, VAXstation 3100 Model 40, VAXstation 3100 Model 48, VAXstation 3100 Model 76, VAXstation 3200, VAXstation 3500, VAXstation 3520, VAXstation 3540 VAXstation 4000 Model 60, VAXstation 4000 Model 90, VAXstation 4000 VLC VAXserver: VAXserver 3100 Model 10/10E, VAXserver 3100 Model 20/20E, VAXserver 3300, VAXserver 3400, VAXserver 3500, VAXserver 3600, VAXserver 3602, VAXserver 3800, VAXserver 3900 VAXserver 4000 Model 200, VAXserver 4000 Model 300, VAXserver 4000 Model 500 8 VAXserver 6000 Model 210, VAXserver 6000 Model 220, VAXserver 6000 Model 310, VAXserver 6000 Model 320, VAXserver 6000 Model 410, VAXserver 6000 Model 420, VAXserver 6000 Model 510, VAXserver 6000 Model 520, VAXserver 6000 Model 610, VAXserver 6000 Model 620, VAXserver 6000 Model 630 Processors Not Supported MicroVAX I, VAXstation I, VAX-11/725, VAX-11/782, VAXstation 8000 Processor Restrictions VT1300 color terminal A TK50 Tape Drive is required for standalone MicroVAX 2000 and VAXs- tation 2000 systems.
