          Read Before Installing HP DECset Version 12.8

          The DECset kit consists of a group of programmer productivity
          tools that aid in the development of system or application
          software on an OpenVMS system.

          The DECset Version 12.8 release is for two separate OpenVMS
          operating system platforms: OpenVMS Alpha and OpenVMS for In-
          tegrity servers.

          Salient features of the DECset Version 12.8 are as follows:

          o  Extended file specification support for DECset components

          o  CMS now supports library sizes larger than 1 GB

          o  CMS now supports an explicit /BINARY qualifier to create
             binary files

          Each DECset Version 12.8 operating system platform consists of
          the following components:

          o  Language-Sensitive Editor (LSE), Version 5.1

          o  Source Code Analyzer (SCA), Version 5.1

          o  Digital Test Manager (DTM), Version 4.4

          o  Performance and Coverage Analyzer (PCA), Version 5.0

          o  Code Management System (CMS), Version 4.5

          o  Module Management System (MMS), Version 3.8

          Note:

          1. SCA call graph query does not display the complete graph
             in cases where number of nodes (which represent functions
             in the program) crosses a certain threshold. Fixed QuIX :
             QXCM1000224576 Below mentioned logicals are required for
             cases where the number of nodes is greater than 1500 and
             only applicable upto number of nodes equal to 2200. SCA has
             a design limitation above 2200 nodes which may or may not be
             solved by defining the above logicals.

          2. SCA_NODE_DISTANCE: This logical can be set by the user which
             sets the distance between the nodes in the call graph. The
             value can vary between 0.6 and 1.0.

          3. SCA_ZOOM: This logical can be defined by the user which will
             zoom out the call graph window by 10%.

 






          Licensing Information

          Before you install DECset Version 12.8, you must first register
          a License Product Authorization Key (License PAK) using the
          License Management Facility (LMF). Product licenses and media
          are ordered separately.

          The DECset for OpenVMS Alpha product is license by personal,
          concurrent and unlimited system class basis. Refer to the HP

          The DECset for OpenVMS I64 product is licensed on a per core
          (PCL) basis. Refer to the HP DECset for OpenVMS Software Product

          Distribution Media

          DECset media continues to be available on the OpenVMS Alpha
          CD-ROM Software Product Library and OpenVMS I64 CD-ROM Layered
          Product Library.

          Release Notes

          The release notes for each of the components that comprise the
          DECset kit contain information about new features, corrected
          errors, performance enhancements, restrictions, known problems,
          and incompatibilities. After installing the DECset kit, release
          notes are located in SYS$HELP in individual component files
          (both text and PostScript formats) and overview information in a
          DECset product file (text format only).
