HP December 2008 Dear Customer, In an effort to provide enhanced storage management software ca- pability to our customers, HP is pleased to offer this release of HP Archive Backup System (ABS) for OpenVMS, Version 4.5. New fea- tures and enhancements included in ABS Version 4.5 are Software encryption and Key Management, improved Daylight Savings Time Zone support and improved performance for Remote Device Facility ( RDF) users. We thank you for your purchase of this product. ABS Version 4.5 supports OpenVMS running on Integrity servers and Alpha systems. ABS is an application that performs automated backup of your data and provides a secure copy, which you can use in the event of unforeseen natural disasters or even simple operator errors. ABS proves beneficial whenever you perform a selective restore of files or a complete restore of the entire disk (physical or virtual) due to the loss of the original data. Backups can be ini- tiated automatically on a scheduled basis, however, the restores are initiated on an as need basis. New Features in ABS Version 4.5 ABS Version 4.5 now supports software data encryption, thereby securing data files, saved during your backups. This feature is an extension of the Encryption support available in the OpenVMS Backup utility starting with OpenVMS V8.3. All supported encryp- tion algorithms, such as DES and AES, and key lengths, available for use in BACKUP are now available in ABS. Key management, supporting both manually and automatically gener- ated keys, is now part of this release of ABS V4.5. Enhanced Features in ABS Version 4.5 o ABS Version 4.5 is qualified with Oracle 10gR2 on OpenVMS In- tegrity servers and Alpha o Improved support for Daylight Saving Time (DST) o Improved performance for RDF users Consistent with Prior Versions of ABS, Version 4.5: o Honors either an ABS or a SLS license PAK o Qualified with direct-attach and Fibre Channel (FC) connected tape storage for OpenVMS V7.3-2 and later. Please refer to the Software Product Description (SPD) for a list of supported tape libraries, the Modular Data Router (MDR) and the Network Storage Router (NSR) that serve a bridge between the FC and the SCSI interface of the tape drive. If you are using ABS V3.0x or a later version, and have not up- graded to the ABS V4.0 stream, then you need to convert the exist- ing ABS policy database when upgrading to ABS Version 4.5. Many of the changes in the V4.x stream are a redesign of the software to make it more reliable and maintainable for future enhancements. OS Compatibility: o ABS Version 4.5 is compatible with the following OpenVMS ver- sions: - OpenVMS Integrity servers V8.2-1, V8.3, and V8.3-1H1 - OpenVMS Alpha V7.3-2, V8.2, and V8.3 o RDF is supported for use by ABS Version 4.5 on OpenVMS In- tegrity servers V8.2-1, V8.3, and V8.3-1H1. o RDF is supported for use by ABS Version 4.5 on OpenVMS Alpha V7.3-2, V8.2, and V8.3. o To install ABS Version 4.5 on an OpenVMS version prior to those listed above, a prior version support contact is required.
