Hewlett-Packard Read Before Installing or Using HP Fortran Version 8.0 for OpenVMS Alpha Systems October 2005 This letter explains the Version 8.0 release of HP Fortran for OpenVMS Alpha systems. Product Packaging Information HP Fortran Version 8.0 for OpenVMS Alpha Systems includes the HP Fortran compiler, the HP Fortran 77 compiler, and their shared components (such as the HP Fortran run-time library system and the FORSYSDEF.TLB library). The Compaq Extended Math Library (CXML) is an optional component. Both HP Fortran Version 8.0 compilers recognize the Product Authorization Key (PAK) for either HP Fortran or HP Fortran 77. For example, if you have an HP Fortran 77 PAK, you can begin using the HP Fortran compiler. If you install both compilers, the command names are: o HP Fortran: the FORTRAN (or F90) command o HP Fortran 77: the FORTRAN command with the /OLD_F77 quali- fier While HP Fortran 77 currently supports a very few legacy com- patibility features not yet supported by HP Fortran, HP Fortran supports nearly all HP Fortran 77 extensions. For more infor- mation, see the compatibility appendix in the HP Fortran for OpenVMS User Manual. Installation Information For installation information, see the HP Fortran for OpenVMS Alpha Systems Installation Guide in your kit. Release Notes The HP Fortran release notes contain a summary of new fea- tures, known problems, restrictions, incompatibilities, and installation-related instructions. To read the release notes before installing HP Fortran, follow the instructions in the HP Fortran for OpenVMS Alpha Systems Installation Guide.
