 product.

 SOFTWARE INFORMATION

 HP DCE for OpenVMS VAX and OpenVMS Alpha Version 3.1 is a new
 release that replaces Compaq DCE for OpenVMS VAX and OpenVMS Alpha
 Version 3.0. HP DCE for OpenVMS VAX and OpenVMS Alpha Version
 3.1 is a complete kit that does not require a previous version
 of Compaq DCE for OpenVMS for installation. Version 3.1 can be
 installed in a new system or can be installed as an update to a
 previous version of DCE for OpenVMS.

 Refer to the HP DCE for OpenVMS VAX and OpenVMS Alpha Release
 Notes for information about this release.

 Table 1 below provides the HP DCE for OpenVMS product kit informa-
 tion for Alpha and VAX systems.

 The Product Guide, Installation & Configuration Guide, Reference
 Guide of Compaq DCE for OpenVMS Version 3.0 is applicable for HP
 DCE for OpenVMS Version 3.1.

 LICENSE INFORMATION

 If you are installing the HP DCE for OpenVMS Runtime Services Kit,
 you do not need a separate license. The right to use the Runtime
 Services Kit is included as part of the OpenVMS operating license.

 However, if you are installing the HP DCE for OpenVMS Application
 Developer's Kit, CDS Server Kit, or Security Server Kit, you must
 first register a License Product Authorization Key (License PAK)
 using the License Management Facility (LMF). The License PAK can
 be shipped along with the kit if you ordered the license and media
 together; otherwise, it is shipped separately to a location based

 

 on your license order. If you are installing HP DCE for Open-
 VMS as an update on a node or cluster already licensed for this
 software, you have already completed the License PAK registration
 requirements. See the OpenVMS License Management Utility Manual
 for registration instructions.

 INSTALLATION INFORMATION

 Installing HP DCE for OpenVMS Version 3.1 requires one of the
 following:

 o  OpenVMS VAX Version 7.2 or higher

 o  OpenVMS Alpha Version 7.2 or higher

 If you are installing HP DCE for OpenVMS from disk files or CD-
 ROM, start the installation procedure as follows:

 1. Log in to the account from which you are installing the kit.

 2. Stop any currently running version of DCE. Ensure no user is
    using HELP on the system. See the HP DCE for OpenVMS VAX and
    OpenVMS Alpha Installation and Configuration Guide for impor-
    tant details on shutting down different versions of DCE.

 3. Mount the media on the appropriate device.

 4. Register the DCE LMF PAKs if not already registered.

 5. Run the DCE$INSTALL.COM procedure as follows, substituting the
    correct name of your media device for DKA300, and choosing the
    correct directory for your type of system:

       $ @DKA300:[DCE.DCEAXP031]DCE$INSTALL

 RELEASE NOTES INFORMATION

 The release notes for HP DCE for OpenVMS Version 3.1 contain im-
 portant installation-related instructions and a summary of techni-
 cal changes, new features, differences, known problems, corrected
 errors, restrictions, and incompatibilities.

 After you install HP DCE for OpenVMS, you can find the release
 notes in:

    SYS$HELP:DCE031.RELEASE_NOTES

 DOCUMENTATION

 The DCE for OpenVMS Version 3.1 CD-ROM contains PostScript and
 text files of the HP DCE for OpenVMS documentation.

 The Product Guide, Installation & Configuration Guide, Reference
 Guide of Compaq DCE for OpenVMS Version 3.0 is applicable for HP
 DCE for OpenVMS Version 3.1 as well.

 Table 2 lists the HP DCE for OpenVMS files contained in [.DOCUMEN-
 TATION], the directory for printable documentation.
