DIGITAL Read Before Installing: Digital Application Generator V3.0 ACMSxp Server for Windows NT ACMSxp Server for OpenVMS ACMS Server for OpenVMS AV-R07RA-TE Description The Digital Application Generator, formerly known as DECAD- MIRE[TM], is an application development environment that gener- ates high-performance commercial applications. Rapid application development methodologies (prototyping, code templates, screen and code generation) are used to build reliable client/server, ODBC, OLE, and Transaction Processing production applications Digital Application Generator gives application developers access to a rich development environment based on the Windows NT[TM] or Windows 95[TM] operating system. By extending the easy-to-use features of Microsoft[R] Visual Basic[R] (VB), the Application Generator allows developers in large workgroups and enterprise-wide development environments to design, define, prototype, generate, and test two-tier and three-tier client /server applications cost-effectively and efficiently. From one design, applications can be generated which scale with the demands of the business, from ODBC solutions to complete 2-tier and 3-tier client/server systems. The transaction processing (TP) Server add-ons give the Appli- cation Generator the ability to generate transaction processing code for Digital's flagship TP monitor products: ACMSxp and ACMS. With this additional code generation capability, the Dig- ital Application Generator can generate TP application code to satisfy the demands of the most complex and heavily used applications. Installation Information Read the README.TXT file, and this Read Before Installing (RBI) letter for specifics on any restrictions and how they may apply to your environment. Refer to the Digital Application Generator Version 3.0 VB Devel- opment for Windows Software Product Description (SPD 56.32.xx) for more more details and a complete list of the products that are compatible with the Digital Application Generator V3.0 TP Server kits. Product Key Information If you are installing a TP Server for Windows NT, the instal- lation procedure will ask you to enter a Product Key number. Your product key number is located on a label attached to the software license contained in the kit. If you are installing a TP Server for OpenVMS, you will need to use the License Management Facility (LMF) to enter the Product Authorization Key (PAK) data that is included in the kit before beginning the installation. Read Me The Read Me information, along with this RBI letter contain a summary of the known problems, restrictions, incompatibilities, and installation-related instructions. To look at the Read Me information, before you install a TP Server, copy the README.TXT file from the installation media. After you install the TP Server you can find the Read Me infor- mation (release notes) as an icon in the Application Generator program group. Kit Contents The Digital Application Generator V3.0 TP Server kit contains the following: o Read Before Installing o Resource Roadmap o Computer-Based Tutorial (online only) o Getting Started Step-by-Step o Help System (online only) o User's Guide o Application Code Reference o Software Product Description o Digital Application Generator V3.0 TP Server software o Software license The documentation for the Digital Application Generator is provided online with this kit. Each TP Server license kit also contains a set of hardcopy documentation. Additional sets of the hardcopy documentation may be ordered separately. Application Development To give our customers the most flexibility, the PC-based devel- opment kit was released as a self-contained environment. 2 One of the features of the Digital Application Generator is that developers may scale the application for a large number of users by generating their design as a transaction processing application. The transaction processing server enclosed (ACMSxp on Windows NT, ACMSxp on OpenVMS, and ACMS on OpenVMS) adds additional code generation features to the product. These add-on options enable developers to choose only the deployment features that they require. With this TP Server add-on installed, you may select either ODBC or Transaction Processing for deployment when you create a new Project in the Application Generator. 3 Trademarks The following are trademarks of Digital Equipment Corporation: ACMS, ACMS Desktop, ACMSxp, DECADMIRE, DECforms, OpenVMS, and VAX.
