          This release includes bug fixes, a newer version of the GEM code
          generator, and some enhancements to the existing support for
          64-bit pointers. See the accompanying release notes.

          Release Notes Information

          The release notes for HP Pascal Version 5.9 for OpenVMS Alpha
          systems contain installation-related instructions and a summary
          of technical changes, known problems, restrictions, and incom-
          patibilities. To read the release notes before installing HP
          Pascal for OpenVMS Alpha systems, follow the instructions in the
          HP Pascal for OpenVMS Installation Guide.

          After installation of HP Pascal for OpenVMS Alpha, the release
          notes are located in:

             SYS$HELP:PASCAL059.RELEASE_NOTES

          License Management Facility Information

          A License Management Facility (LMF) PAK must be registered and
          loaded before you can install HP Pascal. The LMF name for HP
          Pascal for OpenVMS Alpha systems is PASCAL. For more informa-
          tion, see the HP Pascal for OpenVMS Installation Guide.

          Contents of the Release

          The release is composed of two distributions:

          o  Layered product distribution, which contains the HP Pascal
             for OpenVMS Alpha software and the following documentation in
             .PS and .TXT formats:

             -  HP Pascal for OpenVMS Installation Guide

             -  This cover letter that you are reading

          o  Online documentation distribution, which contains the follow-
             ing HP Pascal manuals:

             -  HP Pascal for OpenVMS Language Reference Manual

             -  HP Pascal for OpenVMS User Manual

             -  HP Pascal for OpenVMS Installation Guide
