          Dear HP OpenVMS/Hanzi I64 Customer,

          HP is pleased to introduce the HP OpenVMS/Hanzi I64 Version
          8.2 operating system. Enclosed is your HP OpenVMS/Hanzi I64
          Version 8.2 kit. It runs on top of HP OpenVMS I64 Version 8.2
          and provides the following sophisticated Chinese features:

          o  a rich set of Chinese utilities for programmers, system
             managers and general users

          o  a Chinese environment for users to run HP's Chinese lay-
             ered products as well as third party and in-house developed
             Chinese applications

          o  a programming environment for the development of Chinese
             applications

          o  world wide languages text-to-PostScript printing subsystem

          The enclosed kit contains the binary kit of HP OpenVMS/Hanzi I64
          Version 8.2 which is to be installed on HP OpenVMS I64 Version
          8.2.

          Chinese Utilities

          HP OpenVMS/Hanzi I64 Version 8.2 provides the following Chinese
          utilities:

          o  HMAIL
             Extended OpenVMS MAIL utility that supports Chinese

          o  HDUMP
             Extended OpenVMS DUMP utility that displays English and
             Chinese characters properly

          o  HTPU and HEVE
             Utilities to perform Chinese text processing and editing

          o  SEARCH
             Extended OpenVMS SEARCH utility that supports Chinese charac-
             ters in the search string

          o  SORT/MERGE
             Extended OpenVMS SORT/MERGE utility that supports Chinese
             collating sequences and character-based sorting

          o  CMGR
             Character management utility to support user-defined charac-
             ters

 






          o  World-Wide PostScript Printing Subsystem (WWPPS)
             WWPPS extends the DECprint Supervisor for OpenVMS (DCPS)
             capability and allows users to print Chinese text document
             with DCPS supported PostScript printers.


          User Environment

          HP OpenVMS/Hanzi I64 Version 8.2 provides the following features
          in its Chinese environment for general users:

          o  Terminal I/O support for Chinese characters

          o  Terminal I/O support for user-defined characters

          o  Chinese support in DCL

          o  Chinese help text

          o  Chinese system messages

          o  Chinese date and time display

          Programming Environment

          HP OpenVMS/Hanzi I64 Version 8.2 provides the following features
          for the development of Chinese applications:

          o  SORT and MERGE callable routines for sorting and merging
             English and Chinese data

          o  Chinese SMG for screen management

          o  Chinese Processing Run Time Library for general Chinese
             processing requirements

          o  HTPU built-in procedures and callable routines for English
             and Chinese text processing in a character cell terminal or
             DECwindows Motif environment

          o  DEBUG utility with Chinese characters support

          Upgrade and Installation

          HP OpenVMS/Hanzi I64 is distributed as a binary kit on the
          HP Software Products Library DVD. Procedures for setting up
          the system disk and for preparing the system for day-to-day
          operations are described in HP OpenVMS/Hanzi I64 Version 8.2
          Installation Guide.

          HP OpenVMS/Hanzi I64 Version 8.2 requires HP OpenVMS I64 Version
          8.2 as the prerequisite software. Follow the steps below to
          install HP OpenVMS/Hanzi I64 Version 8.2:

          1. Prepare a HP OpenVMS I64 Version 8.2 system. For details,
             please read HP OpenVMS I64 Version 8.2 Upgrade and Installa-
             tion Manual.

          2. If users want to have Chinese characters support on the DEBUG
             Utility, the proper locale file from HP-I64VMS-VMSI18N-V0802-
             1.PCSI kit must be installed using the PCSI Utility. For more
             information, please refer to the HP OpenVMS/Hanzi I64 Version
             8.2 Installation Guide.

          3. If users want to utilize the World-Wide PostScript Printing
             Subsystem (WWPPS), the proper locale file from HP-I64VMS-
             VMSI18N-V0802-1.PCSI kit and DECprint Supervisor (DCPS)
             for OpenVMS must be installed. For more information, please
             refer to the HP OpenVMS/Hanzi I64 Version 8.2 Release Notes,
             HP OpenVMS/Hanzi I64 Version 8.2 Installation Guide, and
             DECprint Supervisor for OpenVMS Installation Guide.
