For a complete product description, see the DIGITAL TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Version 5.0A Software Product Description (SPD 46.46.10). Features The Version 5.0A release includes all version 5.0 patches from December 1998 to June 1999. The version 5.0 product incorporated the widely used and proven IPv4 kernel ported from DIGITAL UNIX Version 4.0D.[1] Release Notes The DIGITAL TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Release Notes list the problems fixed in this release. The release notes are lo- cated on the distribution media in the same directory as the software kits. After installation, the text version of the re- lease notes is located in SYS$HELP:TCPIP050A.RELEASE_NOTES. A PostScript version is also available in SYS$HELP:TCPIP050A_ RELEASE_NOTES.PS. In addition to the product limitations and software corrections described in the Release Notes, you should be aware of the following information before installing this product: o DHCP Server Limitation ___________________ [TM] The following are trademarks of Compaq Computer Corporation: Compaq, DIGITAL, DIGITAL UNIX, OpenVMS, VAX, VMS, and the Compaq logo. [1] This kernel is based on Berkeley Software Distribution (BSD) Versions 4.3 and 4.4 with enhancements from DIGITAL Equipment Corporation. When multiple nodes in the cluster are running a DHCP server (cluster failover mode), the DHCP administrator must manage DHCP from the node that has the active DHCP server. All other nodes have the DHCP server running in standby mode. In the event the currently active DHCP server stops, then a DHCP server from one of the other nodes will become the active DHCP server. To determine which node is running the active DHCP Server, the administrator must enter the following commands: $ MCR SYSMAN SYSMAN> SET ENVIRONMENT /CLUSTER SYSMAN> DO TCPIP SHOW DEVICE /SERV=DHCP The node with the active DHCP server will respond. o BGDRIVER Correction A crash may occur when using PATHWORKS, DECnet/TCPIP, or the TELNET server. The bugcheck type is "INCONSTATE, Inconsistent I/O data base." This is caused by a small timing window and may lead to inconsistent data structures. This problem is corrected in Version 5.0A. o Receipt of a mal-formed TCP packet may cause a system crash Error path processing of the mal-formed TCP packet would re- sult in access to some uninitialized variables. This problem has been corrected in V5.0A. o The Release Notes correctly states that the problem re- ported in 70-3-1720, "Token Ring Problem" has been corrected. The correct problem report number from the TCP/IP Services database is 70-5-1038. o The Release Notes incorrectly states that problem 70-5-998 has been corrected. The correct number is 70-5-996. Before Configuring the Product The TCP/IP Services product gives you the option to convert TCP/IP configuration databases from the Version 4.x format to the Version 5.0 format. For this operation to succeed, the configuration files must exist in the default directory SYS$COMMON:[SYSEXE]. Before running TCPIP$CONFIG, verify that the following files appear in SYS$COMMON:[SYSEXE]: o UCX$CONFIGURATION.DAT o UCX$SERVICE.DAT o UCX$HOST.DAT o UCX$NETWORK.DAT o UCX$PROXY.DAT o UCX$ROUTE.DAT o UCX$EXPORT.DAT 2 Licenses The DIGITAL TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS product offers three licenses: o Server license. Provides complete product functionality. o Client license. Provides complete product functionality except for the following server components: NFS server, BIND server, PC-NFS server, remote BOOT server, and RMT/RCD server. o Client upgrade license. Provides the server components for customers who purchased a client license and now require full server functionality. Media Changes (VAX Only) With Version 5.0A, the TCP/IP Services software for OpenVMS VAX (QA-VHRAA-HZ) is available on CD-ROM (layered product and operating system) as well as on the standard TK50 and magnetic tapes. The TCP/IP Services software will be available only on CD-ROM starting in June 2000. TK50 and magnetic tape media will not be available from that date on.
