Read Before Installing DCE for Compaq Tru64 UNIX Version 3.1

Congratulations on your purchase of the DCE for Compaq Tru64 UNIX Version 3.1
product! This letter describes how to get started on installing and using DCE
for Compaq Tru64 UNIX Version 3.1.


Installation Information

Before installing DCE software, you can ensure that your system satisfies the
specified software and hardware requirements by reading the Software Product
Description (SPD 43.06.07).

Some subsets of DCE for Compaq Tru64 UNIX Version 3.1 require that you register
and load a License Product Authorization Key (License PAK) using the License
Management Facility (LMF) before installing and running the subsets. You do not
need to register a License PAK for the DCE Runtime Services subset.  Refer to
the DCE for Compaq Tru64 UNIX Installation and Configuration Guide for
information on using Compaq License PAKs and for step-by-step instructions
for installing DCE software and configuring a DCE cell. The Installation and
Configuration Guide accompanies the DCE software and is available in ASCII
and POSTSCRIPT(r) formats.


Release Notes

The DCE for Compaq Tru64 UNIX Release Notes include a description of new and
changed features, a summary of problems addressed in this kit, important notes,
known problems, and documentation errata and notes.  Compaq recommends that
you read the Release Notes before using DCE software. The Release Notes are
included on the layered software products CD-ROM, in ASCII and POSTSCRIPT(r)
formats, in the ascii_doc and ps_doc directories, respectively.  After you
have installed DCE for Compaq Tru64 UNIX, you can find the Release Notes as
follows:

Documentation

The layered products CD-ROM includes the Release Notes, the DCE for Compaq
Tru64 UNIX Installation and Configuration Guide, and UNIX manpages. Additional
technical documentation is available separately on the Compaq Tru64 UNIX Alpha
Online Documentation Library (ODL) CD-ROM. The DCE documentation can be found
in the "Programming Tools and Languages" category of the ODL on a bookshelf
named "DCE for Compaq Tru64 UNIX." For information on how to access the DCE
documentation, refer to the Compaq Tru64 UNIX 4.0 Layered Products' Compact
Disc User's Guide that accompanies the CD-ROM distribution kit.
