DIGITAL Read Before Installing or Using the DEC Ada Version 3.4 Professional Development Option for OpenVMS Alpha Systems AV-QDSBC-TE November 1997 Thank you for purchasing the DEC Ada Version 3.4 Professional Development Option (PDO), which includes the following features and capabilities: o Smart recompilation Can significantly reduce the number of recompilations that are needed to rebuild your program after some compilation units change. Smart recompilation allows the compiler to propagate changes quickly through a system, eliminating up to 100% of the usual recompilations. o Program library file-block caching Minimizes the actual amount of disk input-output that must be performed by using an in-memory cache of file blocks from files in the Ada library. As a result of file-block caching, the elapsed time for compilations is significantly reduced. o Multilevel program library directory structure Provides a more efficient program library directory struc- ture to improve the performance of access to large program libraries. All of the features and capabilities are designed so that you do not need to change your current development procedures or source code when you enable the PDO. You can use your currently existing programs without any special linkers or loaders.
