You should read this letter, espe- cially the section on Installation, before attempting to install the product. Throughout the rest of this document, X.25 for Open- VMS Alpha Systems, V1.0g is referred to as X.25. Layered Products Media The OpenVMS Alpha Layered Products media, which contain X.25, comprise two types of Compact Disc: o OpenVMS Alpha Software Product Library CD-ROM, which contains the installable subsets, Installation Guide and Release Notes (in ASCII and PostScript[R] form) for each layered product. o OpenVMS Alpha Online Documentation Library CD-ROM, which con- tains user documentation in Bookreader[R] form. Contents of the Media Kit o Bill of Materials (BOM) Please read the BOM enclosed in this kit and verify that all items listed are actually in your kit. If your kit is damaged or any items are missing, call your Digital representative. o Media For information about installing X.25 on your system, refer to the X.25 for OpenVMS Alpha Systems-Installation Guide. The CD booklet: - describes the directory names on the Software Product Li- brary CD where product subsets are located; - lists the documentation files on the Online Documentation Library CD provided for each product; and - contains information on using Bookreader. o Hardcopy X.25 Documentation Depending on how you ordered the product, your installation kit may also include printed copies of the X.25 manuals. o Software Product Description (SPD) The SPD provides an overview of the X.25 product and its fea- tures. Release Notes Information The Release Notes for X.25 contain installation-related instruc- tions and a summary of technical changes, known problems, restric- tions, and incompatibilities. Digital recommends that you read the Release Notes before installing X.25. The Release Notes are located on the OpenVMS Alpha Software Product Library CD-ROM in PostScript (.PS) and ASCII (.TXT) form. Installation Information Installing X.25 V1.0g requires the OpenVMS Alpha Operating System Version 6.2. Installation Caution This caution applies to customers installing X.25 V1.0g on a sys- tem which already has ECO of DECnet/OSI for OpenVMS Alpha in- stalled. As a result of an error in the POLYCENTER Software Installation, installing X.25 V1.0g causes the installation process to re- move the ECO. This will leave the system without a SYS$NETWORK_ SERVICES.EXE and it is not possible to reboot. Reinstall the DECnet/OSI ECO using PCSI, after installing X.25 V1.0g. License Management Facility (LMF) Information A License Management Facility (LMF) Product Authorisation Key (PAK) allows you to access a software product, and its documen- tation in Bookreader format. A PAK must be registered and loaded before you can install X.25 from the Digital CD-ROM Software Li- brary for OpenVMS Alpha Layered Products. Refer to the CD Read 2 First letter for information on LMF requirements needed to read the X.25 documentation using Bookreader. Accessing Bookreader Documentation To enable access to the X.25 Bookreader files, your system man- ager needs to define the DECW$BOOK environment variable as de- scribed in the OpenVMS Alpha Layered Products Compact Disc User's Guide in the CD distribution kit. To read the X.25 documents, run Bookreader on a graphics terminal: a. Invoke Bookreader (refer to the OpenVMS Alpha Layered Prod- ucts Compact Disc User's Guide); the initial or navigation Bookreader window is displayed. b. Select the appropriate X.25 document.
