          Read Before Installing or Using HP COBOL Version 2.9
          for OpenVMS Alpha and OpenVMS I64

          August 2007

          Please take a moment to read the following information about HP
          COBOL Version 2.9 for OpenVMS Alpha and OpenVMS I64.

          License Management Facility (LMF) Information

          Before you can install HP COBOL, an LMF Product Autho-
          rization Key (PAK) must be registered and loaded (see the
          HP COBOL Installation Guide).

          Installation Information

          Installing HP COBOL requires the OpenVMS Alpha operating system
          Version 7.3-2 or higher or OpenVMS I64 Version 8.2-1 or higher.

          The quarterly distribution media contains the installation
          kit, the HP COBOL Installation Guide, the Software Product
          Description (SPD), and the Release Notes in ASCII and PostScript
          form. For OpenVMS I64, the COBOL kit is on the HP OpenVMS I64
          Layered Products Library DVD. For OpenVMS Alpha, the OpenVMS
          Alpha Layered Products Compact Disc User's Guide lists the
          number of the CD-ROM and the directory name for the COBOL kit.

          Release Notes Information

          The Release Notes for HP COBOL Version 2.9 contain a summary of:

          o  Known problems, restrictions, and problems corrected

          o  RTL notes

          o  Debugger notes

          To read the Release Notes before installing HP COBOL, use the
          following DCL command to extract them into a file:

             $ PRODUCT EXTRACT RELEASE_NOTES COBOL/FILE=SYS$HELP:COBOL029.RELEASE_NOTES -
             $_/SOURCE=device:[directory]

          This command will extract the Release Notes into SYS$HELP.

          The instructions for the installation will be found in the
          Installation Guide. After you install HP COBOL, the Release
          Notes will be located in:

              SYS$HELP:COBOL029.RELEASE_NOTES

 






          Documentation

          Documentation for HP COBOL is on the Online Documentation Li-
          brary (ODL) in .pdf format. It consists of the following docu-
          ments:

          o  HP COBOL Reference Manual

          o  HP COBOL User Manual

          o  HP COBOL Installation Guide (updated for Version 2.9)

          o  HP COBOL DBMS Database Programming Manual.

          Please refer to the Release Notes for product update informa-
          tion.
