          Thank you for purchasing DIGITAL TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS
          networking software. This product is the Compaq implementation
          of TCP/IP protocols and services for the OpenVMS operating
          system.

          The product package contains the DIGITAL TCP/IP Services for
          OpenVMS Version 5.0 software and user documentation. Please
          check the Bill of Materials (BOM) to make sure you received all
          the items listed. If any item is missing or damaged, contact
          your Compaq representative.

          Features

          The Version 5.0 release incorporates the widely used and proven
          IPv4 kernel ported from DIGITAL UNIX Version 4.0D.[1]

          The DIGITAL TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS release notes outline
          the new features for Version 5.0. The release notes are located
          on the distribution media in the same directory as the software
          save sets. After installation, the release notes are located in
          SYS$HELP:TCPIP050.RELEASE_NOTES.

          Before Configuring the Product

          The TCP/IP Services product gives you the option to convert
          TCP/IP configuration databases from the Vsersion 4.x format
          to the Version 5.0 format. For this operation to succeed,
          the configuration files must exist in the default directory
          SYS$COMMON:[SYSEXE]. Before running TCPIP$CONFIG, verify that
          the following files appear in SYS$COMMON:[SYSEXE]:

          o  UCX$CONFIGURATION.DAT

          o  UCX$SERVICE.DAT

          o  UCX$HOST.DAT

          o  UCX$NETWORK.DAT

          o  UCX$PROXY.DAT

          Licenses

          The DIGITAL TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS product offers three
          licenses:

          o  Server license. Provides complete product functionality.

          o  Client license. Provides complete product functionality
             except for the following server components: NFS server,
             BIND server, PC-NFS server, remote BOOT server, and RMT/RCD
             server.

          o  Client upgrade license. Provides the server components for
             customers who purchased a client license and now require full
             server functionality.

          Media Changes (VAX Only)

          With Version 5.0, the TCP/IP Services software for OpenVMS
          VAX (QA-VHRAA-HZ) is available on CD-ROM (layered product and
          operating system) as well as on the standard TK50 disk drives
          and magnetic tapes.

          For the next major release of the software, TCP/IP Services
          software will be available only on CD-ROM. TK50s and magnetic
          tape drives will not be available for future versions of the
          product. This strategy reflects the trend in the industry toward
          more efficient storage media.
