          Thank you for purchasing HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS net-
          working software. The HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS software
          product is the OpenVMS implementation of the industry-standard
          TCP/IP protocol suite and internet services for OpenVMS Alpha
          and OpenVMS VAX systems.

                                        NOTE

             o  TCP/IP Services V5.4 is supported on Alpha systems
                only. For VAX systems, please continue using TCP/IP
                Services V5.3.

             o  This version of TCP/IP Services is supported on OpenVMS
                Versions 7.3-1 and 7.3-2.

          For a complete description of this product, see the HP TCP/IP
          Services for OpenVMS Version 5.4 Software Product Description
          (SPD 46.46.17).

          Features

          The HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS software is based on the
          Berkeley Software Distribution (BSD) Versions 4.3 and 4.4, with
          enhancements from HP.

          This release of HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS features the
          following enhancements:

          o  A new optional TCP/IP kernel for performance scalability on
             symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) systems

          o  Secure shell (SSH) client and server

          o  Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for POP

          o  failSAFE IP provides IP address failover

          o  Software update and new programming examples using IPv6 APIs

          o  The BIND server is upgraded to Version 9.2.1

          o  INET driver performance enhancements

          o  NFS server performance enhancements

          o  TELNET server performance enhancements

          o  BG device creation enhancement

 






          o  Fast BG device creation and deletion

          o  Updated standard kernel

          o  Support for the TCPDUMP utility

          Release Notes

          The HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Release Notes describe the
          problems fixed in this release. The release notes are located
          on the distribution media in the same directory as the software
          kits. After installation, the text version of the release notes
          is located in SYS$HELP:TCPIP054.RELEASE_NOTES. A PostScript ver-
          sion is also available in SYS$HELP:TCPIP054_RELEASE_NOTES.PS.

          Licenses

          The HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS product offers three li-
          censes:

          o  Server license - Provides complete product functionality.

          o  Client license - Provides complete product functionality
             except for the following server components: NFS server, BIND
             server, PC-NFS server, remote BOOT server, RMT/RCD server,
             and IMAP server.

          o  Client upgrade license - Provides the server components for
             customers who purchased a client license and who now require
             full server functionality.
