          Dear DEC SecurityGate User,

          Digital is pleased to provide DEC SecurityGate[TM] Version
          1.1 Field Test. Enclosed you will find the components for this
          release of the the DEC SecurityGate software.

          Contents of this Kit

          The following items are included in the DEC SecurityGate kit:

          o  A magnetic tape containing the binary software for DEC Secu-
             rityGate.

          o  The DEC SecurityGate documentation for this release, consist-
             ing of the following:

             -  DEC SecurityGate Release Notes (included with this cover
                letter)

             -  DEC SecurityGate User's Guide

             -  DEC SecurityGate Installation Guide

          o  A DEC SecurityGate Product Authorization Key (PAK) (necessary
             for use of the product)

          Product Description

          DEC SecurityGate (DSG) is an optional software product for VMS
          DECnet. DSG supplies DECnet protocol filters which enable an
          Information Security Manager to restrict the types of communica-
          tion that can occur between nodes in different security domains.
          DEC SecurityGate Version 1.1 is a security tool that filters
          DECnet traffic passing through a VMS routing node. The filtering
          that is done is based upon a user-defined set of rules which
          can specify: username, source and destination nodes, communica-
          tions circuits, time of day, day of week, and network objects or
          tasks.

          Prerequisite Software

          DEC SecurityGate Version 1.1 requires a VMS (Version 5.2 or
          greater) system with a full function DECnet license.

          Problem Reporting

          If you encounter a problem with this software or documentation,
          please report it by filling out a Software Performance Report
          (SPR) form. A DEC SecurityGate SPR form (which may be copied)
          and directions for completing and mailing SPRs are included with
          this letter.

          Service Note: If it is necessary to contact Digital's CSC (Cus-
          tomer Support Center) for support questions on your network, you
          must advise the CSC that you have DEC SecurityGate installed on
          your routing host.

          Enhancement Suggestions

          SPR forms can also be used to suggest enhancements. We wel-
          come such suggestions. Please be sure to indicate "suggested
          enhancement" as a problem type on the form.

          A Final Note

          Be sure to read the release notes (attached to this cover let-
          ter) before installing or using DEC SecurityGate; the release
          notes contain important information which may affect the instal-
          lation and use of this product.
