HP HP SNA Server for OpenVMS Dear Customer, Thank you for purchasing the HP SNA Server for OpenVMS Version 1.3 software product (hereafter referred to as SNA Server). This kit contains the SNA Server V1.3 documentation. For complete information about the product, refer to the HP SNA Server for OpenVMS Software Product Description (SPD 70.89.03). The HP SNA Server for OpenVMS V1.3 supports OpenVMS Alpha Ver- sion 8.2. Features SNA Server is a layered software product that allows OpenVMS Al- pha systems to communicate with IBM systems using the IBM System Network Architecture (SNA) protocols. Using SNA Server and one or more SNA access routines, users can perform functions such as access IBM application programs or other system resources, act as a 3270 display station, exchange data files and documents with an IBM host, and implement distributed application programs that run between the OpenVMS Alpha and IBM systems. Architecturally, an OpenVMS Alpha system running SNA Server appears to the SNA network as a physical unit type 2.0 node, and is attached to the SNA network through a synchronous com- munications device to an IBM 37xx communications controller. The SNA Server software supports one synchronous communications (SDLC) line or one X.25 communications (QLLC) line. The SNA server software supports a maximum of 255 concurrent SNA logical unit sessions. Both local and remote connections are supported from the SNA server into the IBM SNA network, using switched or leased lines in point-to-point or multipoint environments. An SNA Server consists of the following software: o Wide Area Network Device Drivers: The SNA Server's Syn- chronous Data Link Control (SDLC) module is layered upon the WANDRIVER (device name WAN0:), WANDD, and the synchronous communications hardware. The WANDRIVER and WANDD software are part of the X.25 for OpenVMS product. o X.25 for OpenVMS software: The SNA Server's Qualified Logical Link Control (QLLC) module is layered upon the the X.25 for OpenVMS software. For X.25 support, the SNA Server requires the full X.25 for OpenVMS product, Version 2.0 or later. o SNA Server: The SNA Server includes several modules that implement the SNA protocols and the necessary management software for these modules. o Access routines: The individual software products that use the SNA Server to access programs and information on the IBM systems. See the SPD for a list of access routines supported by SNA Server. Documentation The SNA Server software documentation set includes the following manuals: o Digital SNA Server for OpenVMS Installation and Configuration o Digital SNA Server for OpenVMS Management o Digital SNA Server for OpenVMS Problem Solving o Digital SNA Server for OpenVMS Guide to IBM Parameters Documentation is available in online format as part of the OpenVMS Alpha Online Documentation Library on CD-ROM. If you need to order any additional documentation, please contact your HP sales representative or refer to the ordering information in the Software Documentation Products Directory.
