COMPAQ DIGITAL SNA LUA Programming Interface for DIGITAL UNIX, Version 1.0 AV-RGA1A-TE Dear Customer: This kit contains the DIGITAL SNA LUA Programming Interface for DIGITAL UNIX, Version 1.0, software and user documentation. Please check the bill of materials to see that all the items listed are in your distribution kit. If any item is missing or damaged, please contact your Compaq Computer Corporation representative. The DIGITAL SNA LUA Programming Interface V1.0 product sup- ports the DIGITAL UNIX Version 4.0x operating systems and their associated License Management Facility (LMF) requirements. Description The DIGITAL SNA LUA Programming Interface for DIGITAL UNIX prod- uct is a layered software product that allows user-written ap- plications running on suitably configured DIGITAL UNIX systems, either within a TCP/IP or DECnet network environment, to ex- change messages with cooperating applications on an IBM host. The LUA software exists in the DIGITAL UNIX system as a share- able library. Access between the cooperating DIGITAL SNA and IBM applications is via one of the following products: o DIGITAL SNA Access Server for Windows NT (TCP/IP or DECnet) (DECnet requires Pathworks) o DIGITAL SNA Peer Server (TCP/IP or DECnet) o DIGITAL SNA Domain Gateway for Channel Transport (TCP/IP or DECnet) o DIGITAL SNA Domain Gateway for Synchronous Transport (TCP/IP or DECnet) o DECnet SNA Gateway for Synchronous Transport (DECnet only) o DECnet SNA Gateway for Channel Transport (DECnet only) Features The LUA product includes two programming interfaces: the Request-Unit Interface (RUI) and the Session-Level Interface (SLI). Both interfaces include a variety of "verbs" that are passed to a single interface subroutine using a verb control block. These verbs allow a DIGITAL UNIX transaction application to: o Allocate a local LU o Establish an LU-LU session with the remote host application o Receive notification of pending application data, SNA com- mands and responses o Receive application data and SNA control information o Send application data and SNA control information o Terminate a session o Deallocate a local LU Installation Register and load the product's PAK using the DIGITAL UNIX License Management Facility before you begin installation. Refer to the DIGITAL UNIX Guide to Software License Management for complete licensing information. To install, enter the following command: # setld -l /mnt/snalua where snalua is the name of the directory on the CD-ROM where the DIGITAL SNA LUA Programming Interface for DIGITAL UNIX files are located. Compaq recommends that you read the Release Notes for any tech- nical issues before you begin installation. Documentation The DIGITAL SNA LUA Programming Interface for DIGITAL UNIX V1.0 documentation set includes the following: o DIGITAL SNA LUA Programming Interface for DIGITAL UNIX In- stallation (AA-RG9XA-TE) o DIGITAL SNA LUA Programming Interface for DIGITAL UNIX Pro- gramming (AA-RG9YA-TE) o Online manpages for the LUA verbs If you need to order additional documentation, contact your Compaq sales representative or refer to the ordering information in the Software Documentation Product Directory. Associated Documents You may need to refer to the following IBM documents: o Introductory manuals about SNA: - Systems Network Architecture Concepts and Products, IBM Order No. GC30-3072. Provides basic information on SNA for readers wanting an overview of SNA. 2 - Systems Network Architecture Technical Overview, IBM Order No. GC30-3073. Provides a technical description of how SNA functions allow network users to be independent of SNA network characteristics and operations. o Manual about the LUA programming interface: - 32-Bit Conventional LUA Programming Reference, IBM Or- der No. SC31-8149. Provides information about the LUA interface and its implementation on OS/2. o Manuals about the SNA architecture: - Systems Network Architecture Reference Summary, IBM Order No. GA27-3136. Provides summary information on SNA formats and sequences. - Systems Network Architecture Format and Protocol Reference Manual: Architecture Logic, IBM Order No. SC30-3112. Provides comprehensive information on the formats and protocols of SNA nodes. - Systems Network Architecture - Sessions Between Logi- cal Units, IBM Order No. GC20-1868. Contains reference information on SNA formats and protocols for LUs. In addition, you may wish to refer to any IBM manuals that describe the LUA implementation used by the program with which your LUA program will communicate.
